2021 FORD BRONCO SPORT Complaints

I was exiting a store parking lot when my vehicle died and I lost the steering, hazard lights, ability to put it in neutral. It wouldn’t start, but the radio and air conditioning still was on. When I attempted to start everything would blink.

This car was purchased at FAJARDO FORD IN PUERTO RICO. The car remains in PUERTO RICO where I am working temporarily. I gave FLA address for mailing address. This vehicle shut down while driving [XXX] taken in they did a recall. The car stopped [XXX] with witness. The car shut down on [XXX] at Fajardo Ford by parts dept, [XXX] car shut down again. I called Ford about the issue and they did the recall but they denied repairing it while in warranty because they said they could not replicate it. I am aware this is happening with other Bronco Sports. It is a computer issue. If I unplug the cable to battery and plug back on it resets and starts again. Nightmare of all my car purchases ever. This newer 2021 Ford Bronco Sport stopped working and lost all power on Feb 21, 2024. The vehicle had just 37,031 miles on it. To problem solve, A neighbor jumped it. I turned the vehicle off after a few minutes and it would not turn over and start again. We jumped it again and let it run for about 10-15 minutes. Thinking it was safe to drive, I turned out of my parking lot thinking it was fine and the vehicle began to shake and putter as though it was losing power. It felt unsafe to drive it so I pulled back into my driveway and had it towed to the dealership for repair. Ford dealer told me it was the battery. Since then I’ve had issues with the drivers side window getting stuck when rolled all the way down, sometimes the vehicle has a hard time “catching” to start when I press the break and the power button simultaneously, it also feels like its lulling into between gears when I am going at a low speed. Basically the Vehicle feels like there is an electronic issue. I paid $517.50 for a new battery and labor. A battery should not be failing at 37k miles on a car that was bought brand new. I’ve leased and bought brand new cars since 1992 and I’ve never had to replace a battery on a new vehicle. Now, for the past week, this vehicle feels very tight and sounds like it’s almost grinding when I turn right or left out of my parking stall at home. It feels like there is a power train issue .

This vehicle was taken into a Ford Dealership for service. A mechanic friend of mine drove the car and said, he thought it might be the right front cv axle. The ford service department said that it was a vent hose sending contaminated fluid to the rear deferential. The service guy said he is seeing this a lot with 2021 Broncos. This problem doesn't seem to be covered under the Powertrain Warranty and there doesn't seem to be a recall on this issue. The service department wants to charge almost $1400.00 to fix a problem that seems to be a manufacturing issue. I feel that Ford needs to look into this and correct the issue, because we don't really have that kind of money laying around, but because the car is close to 60 thousand miles, I'm sure Ford will not do anything but it's too late to be covered. I have to get it fixed.

Vacuum Booster Line Detached (Broke Off) from the Vacuum booster Unit. This happened when I was pulling out onto the road and noticed brake became stiff. Could not get vehicle to stop without forceful pressing of brake. Fortunately I was not in traffic but did have cars behind which had to slow to wait for me to pull over. I could have been rear ended. There was no warning or symptoms of this failure. Dealership had it towed and replaced the vacuum line.The service advisor said this was the first he's seen this in the line of Broncos. I have seen several of the same stories on Bronco Forums. This is a known problem. At barely 40K this should not happen and should be part of the Power Train. I had to pay nearly $450 for the diagnostic, part and repair as it is out of warranty

Verified noise concern, found TSB 24-2185 This may be due to contamination of the rear drive unit (rdu) fluid through the rdu vent hose. To correct the condition, follow the service procedure to replace the rdu vent hose. SAFETY CONCERN IS THE POWERTRAIN. HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AT FORD DEALERSHIP.

Over the past the month the vehicle has expereinced a sudden loss of power/ complete electrical failure twice. The first was in a parking space in a parking lot, the second was in the middle of busy intersection. Both times were promted by the vehicle's automatic start/stop function.

After fueling up at a gas station, my 2021 Ford Bronco Sport would not start. When I tried, all of the lighted features started strobing, flashing, and cycling through very quickly on my panel. I called Roadside Assistance, and they jumped me. It was a 50-minute drive home, so it gave the vehicle ample time to recharge. The next day, it would not start. I am waiting for a Roadside to jump me again so I can take it to the dealership. (Suggestion: ability to load video.)

I was backing out of a parking lot of my employment on the early evening of 8.22.24. I heard the familiar whale moaing noise coming from the rear brakes ( has been in and out of the Ford Shop for to address this know issue; still no permanent solution), I immediately noticed when I went to touch the brake pedal it would not push down. The pedal was stiff and required me to heavily push down to get the vehicle to stop. I noticed a severe grinding noise. Fortunately I was able to turn my car back around and safely park it. I pushed the parking brake button and it was not on and then it would not go off. It finally did after several minutes. A friend who knows cars went back with me to look at what could possibly be wrong. He looked under the hood and found a broken vacuum line. I have pictures. I left the vehicle and went home to research. I found a 2021 Compliance Recall Notice 21C31/NHTSA Recall 21V922. I purchased this Bronco Sport used in the fall of 2022 and do not recall knowing of any recalls, including if this specific one was performed on my vehicle . This recall correlates to what happened to my vehicle. It looks like the vacuum booster failed, wore out and caused my automatic brakes to fail. There was no warning lights or indicators that anything was faulty up until the incident. The vehicle has had regular maintenance and has been in to Ford Service to address the most current recalls and TSB's issued since I've had possession. This shook me up . I am so lucky I was not driving at a high speed and in traffic. Things could have been a lot worse. I am deeply concerned about this vehicles safety profile. There seems to be a pattern with this make a model concerning various components including the brakes. I this point I need it fixed so I can look at trading it in for a reliable and safe alternative. exhibits a chatter/shudder during low speed turning events. This may be due to contamination of the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) fluid through the RDU vent hose. To correct the condition I have to follow the Service Procedure to replace the RDU vent hose. the drain tube for the rear differential gets clogged from road debris and dirt gets into rear differential. The repair is rerouting drain tube (new part) and changing fluid.
