2020 FORD ECOSPORT Complaints

My oil pump is faulty just like the others. That I have read about my oil light came on after a warning light dinged on the dash stating that I had low oil pressure issues. My brother in law is a diesel mechanic and took a look at my car and said that if I move my car from my house my engine is ruined. He checked my oil and everything. I was driving back home at very low speeds and couldn’t use my car right now I am paying on a car I can’t use?! This just started 3 days ago. I called my dealership and I can’t afford to pay for them to fix my car!! The dealership is aware of the recall but won’t do anything until they’re allowed too. This is bologna, I have a car that I’m paying for but is broken.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford EcoSport. The contact stated while driving 65-70 MPH, the low oil pressure warning light illuminated, and the vehicle started losing motive power. Additionally, the engine made an abnormal ticking sound. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the warning light and the abnormal ticking sound persisted. Additionally, the vehicle failed to exceed 40 MPH while driving to the nearby dealer. The unknown dealer diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to the residence of the contact's son-in-law. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE23015 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000. The VIN was not available.

Low oil pressure warning on dash, engine lost power while driving. Vehicle stalled and would not restart. Oil level was good. Towed to shop and was informed of an oil pump drive belt failure causing internal engine damage and turbocharger failure. No warning lights prior to incident. I am the technician filing this for our customer.

MY 2020 FORD ECOSPORT shows the engine symbol and the maintenance symbol and every so often my car wouldnt have power or it would just shut off while im in park while inside the vehicle. at first i thought it was a battery issue so i fully recharged my battery and than less than a month later im experiencing the same issue. i looked online and there is countless claims all stating similar issues like mine. my car has around 35k miles on it. i would greatly appreciated some more knowledge on the situation

On December 18, 2023 I started my vehicle for the day when I noticed the low oil pressure warning come on and off very fast, didn’t think anything of it because it didn’t do it the rest of the day. The next day the same thing happened, very fast flicker of the warning so I made an appointment with the dealer to have it checked out. December 20, 2024 it stayed on longer this time and the red oil indicator came on as well. Dropped it off at the dealer on December 21, 2023 & after testing the issue was the oil pump failing and the vehicle needed an engine replacement at 59,294 miles. The dealer stated the car had no oil pressure, metal flakes in the oil, damage to cam caps and heat scoring. Luckily it was covered under the powertrain warranty or it would have been over $6000 to have repaired. They did however replace it with a remanufactured engine so I assume I’ll be dealing with this issue again once this engine nears 60,000 miles so not too happy about that.

Our company has purchased 8- 2018-2022 Ford EcoSports similar to the VIN on this complaint. 5 of the 8 purchased have required engine replacement due to oil pressure related issues. One had just 20k miles, one had mid 40K miles, one had 52K miles and another 68k miles. And we had another today with just 58K miles. This seems to be a chronic issue with these engines.

I was driving on Interstate 10 between Casa Grande and Tucson at around 81 mph, and pushed on the accelerator a bit more to get in front of a car when the warning indicator turned on. It said "Low Engine Oil Pressure". Immediately the car lost all acceleration while I was in the left lane. I had to immediately turn on my hazard lights and get to the right lane, while slowly losing speed. I did not feel safe pulling onto the shoulder and there was an exit about a mile away from where it all started so we essentially were cruising, losing speed, to the exit. We pulled into a gas station parking lot while we figured what was going on. This happened while I was driving in the left lane of a 3 lane interstate with a speed limit of 75mph. I believe that our safety was put into risk because of the nature of the location where it happened and how everyone else was going over 75mph while we were trying to get off the freeway safely. After many tows and having to go back to phoenix, we took it to Chapman Ford in Scottsdale. The oil pump belt snapped, causing the engine to run without oil, and damaging the engine to the point where the dealership says it needs to be replaced. The engine sounds different now and there is rattling present. The Service department quotes the replacement at over $7,000 and the car is just outside the powertrain warranty. No support from Ford Corporate as of now when this is being typed. We do not have the money to get the engine replaced at the moment without having to get a loan. There were no warning lights on prior to this happening, and the car has been maintained well. No symptoms either. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer due to the fact that they are recommending an engine replacement. The low-oil pressure message was displayed. The driver pulled over, checked underneath the hood, and noticed there was an oil leak. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who informed her that the failure was due to the engine oil pressure and the web belt blower motor. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and offered a buyback. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Action Number: PE23015 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 73,247.

Driving around town and the low oil pressure warning come on the dash and the vehicle had loss of power. The vehicle was parked the oil was full and oil changed was done 2 weeks earlier. No the vehicle sounds load.
