2011 FORD EDGE Complaints

Had an issue when driving where I had to press all the way to the floor in order to brake. Checked fluid reservoir and it was empty. put brake fluid in, and it was ok for a couple of days. Now it's doing it again. The brake fluid is still in the reservoir so I don't know what the issue is. After reading forums and complaints, this seems to be an extremely common issue with Ford Edges. This is unsafe.

I noticed one morning driving to work that when I applied the brakes the pedal became a little bit harder to push to get the same amount of braking action. When I got to work I had the mechanic there take a look at the car because I was worried about driving it home. He checked all of the brake system and could not find a problem. He took it for a test drive and said the brakes worked fine. I drove it home and no problem. A few days later I'm on the way to work and as I approached an intersection the light changed and I applied the brakes and this time the pedal went down closer to the floor and by the time I stopped my car was 1/2 way into the intersection. If a car had been in front of me I would have been in an accident. Again the mechanic looked it over and while he was driving it did it to him one time. He stated in his 45 years as a mechanic he had never seen one where the brakes work fine, then lose power brakes, and then they work fine for awhile. You can't know when it's going to happen. You can drive it for a week and it's fine and then it will do it. The mechanic did some checking and found out that Ford knows about the issue and offered a Customer satisfaction program where they extended the warranty coverage to 150,000 miles or 10 years. This car is a 2011 Ford Edge so it is 11 years old but it only has 98,000 miles. During the Covid 19 shutdown the car was hardly driven for 18 months. Ford says it's out of warranty. How is a failing brake booster NOT a safety recall? The mechanic said brake boosters rarely if ever need replacing and certainly not before 100,000 miles. I can't afford the cost of the repair because gas prices. Is it going to take people being killed in crashes before Ford is forced to recall the car? Brakes are the most important system on the car along with steering. The brake booster randomly not working increases the stopping distance and when it quits your reaction is to push real hard and then the brakes grab.

The door Ajar is not indicating door is shut therfore I am unable to lock door also dome lights remain on draining battery. I have tried cleaning out area it helps sometimes then goes back to not working. This is a safety issue for me and my kids as I cannot lock my vehicle and my vehicle will not lock making it unsafe while driving.

Valve inside Hydraulic Control Unit is sticking causing a soft and quickly fading brake pedal making it extremely difficult to stop quickly to avoid an accident. This is a serious problem.

While driving the car on the highway, the upper panoramic roof glass violently exploded and sent shattered glass to the following cars. The sudden explosion diverted my attention to the red which would have caused a serious accident.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. The contact stated the brake pedal was depressed again and responded but the vehicle was still in motion. The contact stated that no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who confirmed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the brake booster warranty had expired. The contact stated that the vehicle was at the dealer waiting parts for the repair. The manufacture was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000. The contact stated that when they purchased the vehicle, the part was already on recall. The contact was like a reimbursement for paying to replace the defective part.

Brakes must be pumped to make a good grab. My mechanic informed me several cars like mine have had the same issue. New master cylinder and booster are needed. Making this report in case this becomes an issue for other Ford Edge owners. The brakes have always been this way since I bought the vehicle, two years ago. The issue has just gotten worse and I took it to my mechanic on the date listed below.

I am writing to you today to make you aware of a situation that occurred with my 2011 Ford Edge. On June 14, 2022 my husband and I embarked on a trip to Maine. Halfway through the trip our check engine light came on and heating warnings went off - we immediately pulled over and had the car towed to the nearest mechanic. He diagnosed our water pump was leaking causing the engine and oil to fill with coolant. This caused coolant to flood the engine and cause it to seize. We were on the Mass Turnpike and couldn't go anywhere except to the side of the road. It was an extremely busy road and very dangerous. We towed the car to our mechanic at home and he agreed with the diagnosis and found that there would be no way to save our engine. He believed that the car was in good condition otherwise and it would be beneficial to replace the engine to extend the life of the vehicle. We have always kept up with routine maintenance of our vehicles, including my Ford Edge. Therefore we ended up replacing our entire engine and radiator that was damaged from the failed water pump. I sent a letter to Ford requesting assistance in replacing this engine and I was recommended by the customer service agent to file this report with you.

Additionally, the contact stated that rearview camera image was distorted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster master cylinder and the rearview camera needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

I went to stop at Kwik Star and stepped on brake and there was significantly diminished stopping power. Because of the curbed sidewalk in front of the building was able to stop. The remainder of my trip home I allowed more stopping distance and was able to return vehicle to my house. I did call my local repair shop and the Power Brake Booster assembly was diagnosed as the issue and replaced on 8/12/2022. The mileage on my vehicle is 79963
