2014 FORD ESCAPE Complaints

I know there was a cyber-attack, it is all very bad timing. Disclaimer. I did educate myself. Door latch broke on rear drivers side and currently 6/22/2024 my door will not close and it's being held shut with ratchet straps. It did not have a warning beforehand, just a rattle. I thought the rattle was another issue but it wasn't. I was told by my mechanics during inspection there was a recall, also my car insurance. Granted I didn't immediately jump on it. My mother owned the car before me, she took the letters to a Ford Dealership in Barre/Montpelier, she was completely dismissed. After I took the car over a few years ago, I got a couple letters but nothing in the last year. I do take my part of the responsibility for not fixing it sooner. My mom was dismissed so I kind of was weary that I would be too. Now, I feel like it was warranted. 3 out of 4 were NOT able to confirm the recall but the last one I called NuCar in St. Albans VT was able to look it up. Now I question the other dealerships. I called 4 Ford dealerships, ALL but ONE was willing to help me. I am supposed to go Monday 6/24/2024 to NuCar in St. Albans VT. I had to explain it's a safety issue, my child is in the car with me, I drive the interstate to work and I have no other means of travel. I'm a single mother, no money, wasn't even offered a rental. I can't understand why when there isn't a computer, there's no will? Backup protocol? I was offered a courtesy shuttle with no guarantee that I'd get a ride home. I have the ability to work from home, I was asked if I had a laptop, yes I do but I have a [XXX], so TV/food in the waiting room? I understand the logic behind the question, I really do. Power steering stopped working instantaneously while exiting the interstate. Narrowly avoided leaving the road thru maximum braking, which nearly resulted in being hit from behind. Vehicle displayed a message saying “Steering Assist Fault Service Required”.

Check engine light in 2023 for P1299, Cylinder head overtemperature protection code. Coolant was heavily leaking, and engine overheated while in use on the interstate highway. I had a red error message telling me to immediately pull over and shut the vehicle off, which I did. I called for roadside service and had my coolant topped in a safe location. Car was towed to the dealership where a leak was found as well as a crack in the degass bottle engine mount, which sprayed coolant directly onto the engine. The degass bottle and mount were replaced, and the issue was fixed. Now, in 2024, I pulled a P2681 engine light error for an issue with the coolant bypass valve. I drove the car into the same dealership, where they're currently assessing it for issues. Mentioned that the coolant bypass solenoid is out of spec for a resistance issue and needs to be replaced, otherwise the engine will overheat due to improper temperature regulation. Both issues above have been confirmed by Ford mechanics, and neither issues have pulled recalls, though this seems to be reminiscent of a 17S09 recall with coolant sensor issues, engine cylinder head overheating, and subsequent leaks.

Unknown. Something at the backside of the motor caught on fire. The car overheated and would not drive. Pulled over, cooled off, added coolant, drove home. Car won't go over 40, shakes, and makes noises. Took it to automotive place. They took the manifold(?) and stopped! Called and told us there had been a fire in the motor, we need to call our insurance company and take it to a Ford dealership. Warranty and insurance company are both fighting with us. Neither one wants to pay!!! This is total BS!!!! No recalls?! Google this cars problems and their #1 problem is they catch on fire!!! WHY IS THERE NO RECALLS?!?!? Does someone have to die to get a recall?

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine overheated. In addition, the contact stated that at times the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed coolant valve. The contact was informed that the coolant valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that while the independent mechanic was driving at an undisclosed speed and test-driving the vehicle, the independent was flagged down by a nearby Police Officer. The independent was advised to pull the vehicle off to the shoulder of the road. The independent mechanic was advised that flames were exiting the rear undercarriage and the front undercarriage of the vehicle. The independent mechanic drove the vehicle to the shoulder of the road and exited the vehicle. The Police officer extinguished the fire. The local Fire Department arrived on the scene. A Police report was filed. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage 63,000

Has to replace the Fan Assembly Coolant sensor three years in a row beginning in 2022, 2023, and 2024. 2023 January, also has the Right Side CV Axcle replaced because a/c coolant was leaking. This leaking went in to the transmission and the transmission also had to be rebuild. Then in 2024 of May the transmission fault service light came on again after being rebuild in January 2023. Took it back to AAMCO and was provided the following codes as errors: P0087- Fuel/Rail system pressure; P0217 engine coolant over temperature; P0219 Engine over speed condition, P0732 gear 2 incorrect ratio, P0733 gear 3, 4, 4 all incorrect ratio. They stated my transmission needed to be rebuilt again and was out of warranty.

the instrument panel cluster gets inoperative including a blank multiple functional display (MFD), and non-functional warning chimes, messages and warning lights. The engine cylinder head overheats crack and leak oil. Other 2014 Ford escapes have had recalls for the same issues but they are saying mine isn't affected. Obviously it is.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at 50 MPH, the engine overheated, and the vehicle stalled with the high-temperature warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent where the vehicle was diagnosed with a cracked plastic coolant reservoir. The contact was informed that the coolant reservoir needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the same independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed as a failure with the coolant tubes. The contact was informed that the coolant tubes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The dealer was not contacted, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,768.

I've had the Vapor Canister Purge valve replaced 3 times due to it causing the car to not start. Now I have a broken nipple on the bottom hose. I don't understand why there is a recall for the same problem on 2012-2018 Ford Focus 2.0 due to a potential malfunctioning Canister Purge valve. Ford Reference #18S32. I will now have to get it placed for the 4th time and also the part that the bottom hose attaches to. If it had been recalled and a proper fix in place then I wouldn't be going through this a 4th time. On that recall dealers will reprogram power train control module with new software that will detect a malfunctioning Canister Purge valve and prevent a potential excessive fuel vapor system vacuum condition from occurring. Dealers will inspect and replace the canister Purge valve, carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module, as necessary. There will be no charge for these services. Why aren't the 2014 Escapes with 2.0 engine being recalled as well? There are many Ford forums with the same Escape problem. When I ask the dealership its always sorry just save your receipts. For what when it doesn't run anymore. Do I get a medal for the most Purge Canister valve replacements. It is really a problem when you're stranded because after you fill up it won't start. I'm sure my car has the rest of the problems of the 2.0 Ecoboost recalls like leaking coolant. But what forever reason its always other models even though many have all the same issues as the lawsuits do.

The contact was on the way to the dealer and heard an abnormal sound and saw black liquid coming from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle driven to the dealer and was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The contact stated that soon after the failure, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument panel displayed an error message "Engine Overheating” and the fuel tank failed to function as need. The message “Turn OFF Engine" prior to the engine overheating. The contact stated that the temperature gauge was extremely elevated, and the vehicle was pulled over to the shoulder. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and was diagnosed with coolant intrusion. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
