2014 FORD ESCAPE Complaints

There's coolant intrusion in my engine due to - as best I can figure - a manufacturing defect that Ford acknowledges in their 2.0L EcoBoost engines (per TSB 22-2229), but NOT in their 1.5L and 1.6L EcoBoost engines (mine is a 1.6L and was produced in parallel with the 2.0L, though they later replaced it with a 1.5L). This is an acknowledged defect, plain and simple, and a safety issue because the engine can catastrophically fail during use due to it! The only fix is literally replacing the engine. Ford won't do anything because it's past the drivetrain warranty.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle unintendedly decelerated to 30 MPH. The check engine warning light and an unknown sensor warning light were illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact stated that he turned off and restarted the vehicle and was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving the following day, and the vehicle decelerated from 65 MPH to 10 MPH, nearly causing a semi-truck to crash into the vehicle. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle for 15 minutes. The contact stated that he restarted the vehicle, activated the hazard lights, and continued driving at 40-50 MPH. The contact stated that the failure mostly occurred while driving and exceeding 60 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected. The dealer determined that an unknown sensor had failed, and the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V495000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered due to the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH, she observed smoke issuing from under the hood and from under the vehicle. No warning lights had been illuminated. The contact was able to pull over and shut the vehicle off, however upon exiting the vehicle she saw that flames were coming from under the vehicle from an area just behind the front tires. The contact called the fire department, and the police department also was on the scene and issued an incident report. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 133,355.

My daughter's 2014 Ford escape low coolant light came on today and the thermostat jumped straight to over heating and the check engine light came on. The coolant has been going down very quickly during normal use and she has to continually fill the coolant more and more recently. Today was the first time the light came on and it overheated.

My coolant has been leaking starting early this month and I took it to my repair shop. My car has 94,347 miles on it. They told me it could be related to Safety Recall Notice 17S09/NHTSA Recall 17V-209. They put in Stop Leak to help. It did for a while but continues to leak. In searching the internet about this problem, I found that many other people are having this problem and are not getting satisfaction from Ford. In the end, they have to have the engine replaced. I'm worried that this problem will advance to more problems like other people are having. On March 11, 2024, I took the car to my repair shop.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed about NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

THE REAR BACK UP CAMERA IS ACTING UP. SOMETIMES COMES ON, SOMETIMES IT IS SHOWING UPSIDE DOWN. I HAVE COME TO RELY ON THIS SAFETY FEATURE AND NEED IT REPAIRED.

Transmission failed without warning while driving on March 18, 2024. There were no previous issues, warning lights, symptoms, etc. The acceleration suddenly stopped, and the car struggled to move. This put me and other drivers at great risk of physical harm. The problem has been confirmed to be a serious transmission issue by our master mechanic and now needs to be replaced.

Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V005000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) which was linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 162,000.
