2010 FORD ESCAPE Complaints

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the power steering assist failed intermittently to operate as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact was informed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle remained with the dealer unrepaired. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle was vibrating abnormally. The contact also stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle was vibrating abnormally. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was flashing on and off. The vehicle was previously repaired, and the spark plugs were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 265,000.

I was driving straight went to turn and I heard a click and my steering wheel locked up completely. I heard two clicks that followed and the steering wheel released. This occurred 4 times on my attempt to get home.

During routine maintenance my mechanic told me the sub frame of my 2010 FordEscape had a serious problem. It appears there is a design flaw which allows condensation from the air conditioner to be traped and ultimately rust through compromising the frame. They said they didn't recommend driving the car, because if the frame failed the right wheel could detatch causing a catastrophic event. This rust only exists on the passenger side.

The contact's sister used excessive force to steer the vehicle off to the shoulder of the road and later managed to drive the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with a defective steering column and the contact's sister was informed that the steering column needed to be replaced by a dealer. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact's sister that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact's sister was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.

Just 120000 km. Because of the water drops from the AC , that part of front frame badly rusted and perforated. Because of the improper design, my 120000 km car now is not safe to drive.

Engine cradle rusted out. It was replaced and I have the old part. Problem was detected using the vehicle for a short drive at residential speed. If the part had failed on the freeway an accident may have occurred. Vehicle was left at a close by shop who confirmed part failure and warned vehicle could not be driven unless part replaced. Shop confirmed this is not uncommon. Called Ford Motor Company and was told to see my local dealer. Checked with dealer body shop. Body shop said never seen problem before. Parts confirmed common replacement part. Service would neither confirm nor deny quality of original part leading to failure. Concern is for younger drivers for whom this is a family hand me down.

My Spouse was lawfully driving at highway speed when the power steering suddenly quit working. This caused an abrupt slowing to a safe stop at the roadside without any steering assist. My spouse was unable to safely continue driving due to inability to operate the steering. My chief concern is under other circumstances this steering failure could have caused a serious accident involving other drivers, maybe even death.The vehicle continues to be inoperable due to the power steering failure.

The contact stated that the vehicle was difficult to steer. The vehicle was safely driven to the residence. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed torque sensor and faulty wires and connectors. The contact was informed that the torque sensor and the wires and connectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
