2020 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID Complaints

The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that upon entering the vehicle, there was an abnormal popping sound coming from the driver's side door. The contact stated that the failure persisted and ultimately resulted in the driver's side door not latching closed properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the door check arm attachment point. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE23013 (Structure). The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 79,000.

This recall is very serious, I do not feel safe driving my car as it could explode and kill me, and or others. No eta on a serious recall, even though I am being forced to pay for repairs, and possibly cause more damage to my engine for this serious recall.

The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while entering the vehicle through the driver's side door, the door made an abnormal popping sound while being opened. The contact stated that the passenger’s side front door also made the abnormal popping sound while being opened. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed the door welds were fracturing. The dealer determined that the driver's and front passenger’s doors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

Yesterday when I opened my driver side door there was a grinding/popping noise. I looked on-line and saw that it is the door check defect on the 2020 and 2021 escapes that is an issue with the welding. I called the dealership today and they said because it is over the milage for the warranty that it will not be covered. Ford issued a Technical Service Bulletin TSB-SSM 50150 but there is not a recall and there are several class action lawsuits regarding the issues. I was told to file a report with your agency.

Car was parked on sloped driveway by dealer's service department driver. Car was shut off and in park, but parking brake was not on. The driver was out of the car taking pictures when it started to roll backwards down the driveway. The driver saw it happen and set the parking brake, It rolled approximately 18 inches and then stopped. I had thought that this had happened previously, but it was much more noticeable watching from outside the car. I contacted the dealer immediately and was told it was normal and to just pay attention to it. He did not suggest bringing it in for inspection. No warning lights or messages.

Driver door: spot welds inside door shell for hinge attachment have broken inside door; door difficult to close and open; unable to properly open/close window

I purchased the vehicle brand new in February 2020 and it has had persistent battery/electrical issues. In May 2022 the battery was malfunctioning and I was driving it to the dealership to be examined and it completely died while I was driving. The electrical system failed while I was driving. I have had the battery replaced at least 3 times in less than 4 years and, despite the battery being replaced less than a year ago, it needs to be replaced again. Ford is not willing to cover the replacement battery despite it being less than 1 year ago. Ford is not standing by their vehicle and refusing to accommodate the repeated battery issues, including catastrophic failure while driving.

For NHTSA recall, 23V80, Ford has NOT provide a resolution to this recall from June 2023. I am sending in this complaint as Ford indicated in June 2023 letter to contact the Hotline if a repair is not provided in a reasonable timeline. As of 1/8/2024 there is no repair available.In addition, a loaner until the repair is completed is not available.
