Vehicle: 2017 Ford F-150 2.7 EcoBoost, 6R80 transmission VIN: [XXX] While driving at highway speed (approximately 150 km/h / 93 mph) during an overtaking maneuver and moderate-to-heavy acceleration, the vehicle experienced a sudden harsh transmission event. The transmission abruptly entered limp mode and became stuck in 3rd gear. A wrench warning light appeared with the message “See Manual.” The vehicle immediately lost normal acceleration capability and could only continue driving in reduced-power mode. The malfunction occurred suddenly and without prior warning while traveling at high speed. This created a potentially dangerous traffic situation during highway overtaking. After stopping and restarting the vehicle, the transmission returned to normal operation. Diagnostic scan performed using FORScan retrieved DTC code: P0768 – Shift Solenoid D Electrical. The symptoms appear consistent with the currently announced Ford recall involving the 6R80 transmission lead frame / transmission range sensor issue causing unintended harsh downshifts or transmission malfunction. The vehicle is currently located in Poland after being imported from the United States, but the VIN is included in the active NHTSA/Ford recall database. No collision occurred, however the sudden transmission malfunction at highway speed created a serious safety concern. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On going issue with many 3.5 EcoBoost engines having numerous oil leaks due to plastic manifold, valve covers, and oil pan. They heat up and crack over time causing oil leaks on both the top side and bottom of the engine. Being a serious fire hazard with a costly repair that is common in these F150 trucks. 03

While driving about 60 mph on the highway, all warning lights on the dash suddenly came on and the truck immediately lost power/shut down. The wheels sputtered or somethting like that, not sure how to describe it. I was able to safely get off the road and restart the truck. After restarting, it drove normally again with no obvious issues. I recently received a recall notice describing very similar symptoms related to the transmission/lead frame issue, but the notice stated no remedy was yet available. This created a serious safety concern because the failure happened unexpectedly at highway speed. Here is the recall info: Issue Date 2026-04-14 Campaign 26S28/26V237

The transmission needs to be rebuilt/repaired with 162k miles. A member of my family also has a 2017 Ford F150 with the 10r80 transmission and theirs just went out at 92k miles. Also, the cam phaser issue on the 3.5 eco boost happened to this vehicle as well. Now I need a new transmission and theirs cam phasers, timing chain, etc replaced on the motor on an 8 year old truck. These are known issues to Ford as they have changed the parts that failed with a newer, better version.

I have personally experienced sudden harsh downshifting behavior while driving the vehicle, which caused an abrupt change in speed and a temporary loss of control and handling. Given that the recall specifically warns that this condition may result in a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash, I am deeply concerned about the safety of continuing to transport myself and my family in the truck while no remedy is currently available.

On two occasions I've attempted to have this recall work done at a Ford dealership. Today after holding the vehicle for the entire day, the service department at Koons Ford in Falls Church returned the vehicle without performing the recall replacement. Further, they did not notify me the work was not done leaving it to me to call to inquire as to whether the work was done. This is the second attempt at having this recall work performed at Ford dealerships. In both cases, the recall work was not performed.
