2015 FORD F-150 Complaints

I was driving down a mountain road and the truck downshifted. At a speed of 70 mile an hour. Very scary for sure.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while his son was driving 60 MPH on the highway, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted into second gear while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that an unknown warning light had illuminated. The accelerator pedal was depressed again however, the vehicle remained in first gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed and the contact was informed that the OSS sensor on the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

The transmission is a safety issue and is available for inspection. The six speed automatic has a 5th to 4th downshift that is regularly rough and can be jarring at times. A few weeks ago on my way home from work while driving 30 mph around a small bend the truck shifted from 4th to 2nd on its own and bucked so hard that it scared me and brought my hands off the steering wheel and made my back sore for the next day. This is a blind bend because of the shrubbery in the front yard at the bend and it is also at the beginning of a school zone. This could've been a worse situation if there would've been a car or school bus going in the opposite direction. This was certainly the worst one yet but there have been similar situations where the truck jarringly shifted from 4th to 3rd on its own. The problem has not been reproduced, confirmed or inspected as mentioned above. I have read multiple stories stating very similar or even the same occurrences on the forums. The lead frame in the transmission seems to be the leading cause for this issue. Others have been to the dealer, had the computer reflashed and were told it just needs to relearn their driving, only to have the issue return. After seeing these stories and now reading about the investigation into the issue I've been holding off to see what happens as I do not want to waste time and money to not have the issue fixed. There were not any warning lamps, etc before or after this issue. I have noticed that when the jarring shifts occur the small area of the cluster that shows gears one through six goes black and remains that way until manually pressing the button on the shifter to make the image reappear. To this point these shifting issues almost always occur at low speeds while gently resting my foot on the gas to keep a steady speed. It feels as though the transmission shifts into fifth too early, the rpms slowly lower and then it downshifts to fourth in a jarring manner.

2015 Ford F150 XLT 2.7L, 6 speed auto, Crew CAB, short bed. Yes, you can inspect. Going down highway around 45-50 MPH, without warning or warning indicators, transmission suddenly downshifted, rear wheels locked momentarily, RPM's ran up high and vehicle slowed down abruptly in the middle of traffic. Wrench light on dash appeared and disappeared. About 5 minutes later driving on freeway, transmission would not automatically shift up to the next gear, stayed in a low gear for a minute, then finally shifted up. Vehicle is currently at Ford getting inspected. Did not drive the vehicle since the incident on 3-29-24, except to go to the Ford dealer.

Transmission malfunction by sudden downshifting to first gear at highway speeds. This caused my rear wheels to lock up and skid as if I had slammed on the brakes and temporary lose control of the vehicle, which is extremely dangerous on the highway. It has occurred multiple times. There were no warning lights the first several times this happened. They check engine light did come on after about the 6th time it occurred.

While driving at random times trans will go into a limp mode and have only 3 gear speeds. Sometimes either a wrench symbol will come up or a check engine light will come one. When this happens it’ll stay in a limp mode til ignition is cycled for it to reset. Also while at low speeds it has dropped me from 4th gear to 1st.

I have owned my 2015 F150 SPORT 2.7 ECO BOOST since it was new, and occasionally it downshift's mainly in town from 5th gear to 1st gear. I thought this was my fault until I heard about the safety concern. I have mentioned it to ford, but was told that downshift's were normal? Anyway I an now concerned this could happen on the interstate which I don't drive on regularly. It’s been several times that I’ll be driving, sometimes on residential roads and once getting onto the highway. The transmission will suddenly drop down into first gear and I’ll have to limp off the side of the road until I’m going slow enough to be in first gear, then I can go again. Or I’ll lose 1,2 and 6th gears so I’ll have to pull over, turn the truck off and start it again. Then I’ll have gears 1-6 again.

I was driving at around 45mph and my truck suddenly downshifted automatically and almost brought me to a complete stop. It finally shifted back up and I was able to return to the proper speed. If this would have happened at higher speeds I could have been in an accident. Event at 45mph, had I not had my seatbelt on it would have thrown me into the steering wheel.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 35 MPH, the transmission downshifted to a lower gear unexpectedly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that initially, the vehicle would sporadically downshift to a lower gear. After a year, the vehicle started to sporadically downshift more frequently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired with the installation of a new transmission. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
