2015 FORD F-150 Complaints

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle down shifted unexpectedly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that several months later the same failure recurred while her husband was driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed; however, the contact was unsure of the diagnostic results. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V444000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

While driving vehicle slows down/loses power. Dash reads "see manual". Started happening a few days ago. Took to mechanic today and they stated this is a known issue from Ford transmissions, I should inquire about a recall as the parts are backordered three weeks and the costs is a substantial amount. Recall only covers 2014 not 2015, from what I am reading the same issue happening to my 2015.

In 2022, while behind the wheel of my 2015 F150, I would be driving down the highway (70+ mph) and the transmission would suddenly downshift to 1st gear, then jump to 3rd, and then back down to first gear, all over the place. This happened on several occasions. It was erratic, I experienced sudden changes in speed, sudden and frightening revving of the engine (especially on the highway) and on several occasions I had to make sudden changes to my driving to ensure my safety as well as the safety of others on the road. After I was able to pull over and turn my truck off, the truck would either not turn back on or take a while to be able to turn on. I had no warning that the transmission was about to shift gears and only noticed a check engine light after the incident had occurred. After taking my truck to a transmission shop and they did not find an issue with the transmission (it worked correctly while they test drove it), I took it to a Ford Dealership where I was told there was a fault with the CAM Shaft sensors. After a $3,000 repair to fix the issue, I recently found Ford has Recalled 2014 F-150s for issues that sound identical to what I was experiencing in my 2015 F-150.

The contact's husband owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds on several occasions, the contact observed a warning chime and the “See Service Manual”, and “Hill Descent Error” messages were displayed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to accelerate as intended. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure occurred almost two years later. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 49,432.

Twice now in the past 2 weeks I was accelerating from a stop when soon after my truck shifts from 4th to 5th, it’ll slam back down into 2nd gear. Both times my rpms spike, obviously, and my tires briefly screech. Then the truck just shift back up and seems completely normal. There was zero indication of any issues prior to either of these incidents. One of the times, I had my wife and two toddlers in the truck. It was lucky I didn’t lose control either of the times. From the forms that I’ve read, it sounds like I have a faulty transmission range sensor or may need a software update. I have not yet had a dealership officially diagnose my vehicle.

Automatic transmission would suddenly downshift from a high gear, slamming into first gear abruptly slowing the vehicle down without warning. It felt like I was in an accident. I was so startled , I didn't know if I had hit something or if I had been hit in the rear end. On another occasion the rear end locked up and caused the tires to chirp. The vehicle only had 38,374 miles on it. I found a Ford training bulletin (TSB 15-0142 & TSB 16-0015) on 2015-2016 F150's with transmission issues. On 07/28/21 I took the vehicle to Jarrett Ford and they performed a transmission update 16-0015 on the vehicle, R/O Number 623834/1, but the problem was not resolved. On 08/23/21 I took the vehicle back to Jarrett Ford and they had to completely rebuild the transmission R/O Number 624682/2.

While driving truck on road at approximately 45 mph, truck suddenly and without warning shifted into first gear. After the sudden downshift, the truck then recovered normal shifting for the remainder of the drive. This is the third time this has happened in one year. The first time it happened, I was towing an empty small lawn trailer on a secondary road, with truck in "tow" mode. while descending a hill in a sharp curve, the truck suddenly down shifted to first gear, remained there for a few seconds and then started shifting normally. After this happened, when trailer was unhooked, the display continued to show that a trailer was attached to truck for several days and then the display went back to normal. The second and third time this occurred, there was no trailer attached, and truck was in normal driving mode, and there was no warning, wrench, or check engine lights visible on the dash display before or after the downshift happened. Fortunately, up to this point, I have been able to avoid crashing the truck during these downshifts, but I feel this is a very dangerous and serious safety concern to myself and others. I have contacted the local Ford dealership twice regarding what to do about this problem. Today was told to "monitor" it, that they were booked for weeks ahead, and suggested I may want to go to another dealership. After the second time it happened, I inquired about paying out of pocket for any software update that may help with this problem and told that since my truck was not shown on a recall, that it may make the problem worse, and advised they could not do it. It was also suggested that with no lights on dash display and it being a random occurrence, it would be difficult and expensive to figure out. The vehicle is available for inspection at any time.

The contact stated that the vehicle shuddered and hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to a dealer on several occasions; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The dealer was finally able to diagnose the vehicle with a defective wheel speed sensor on the lead frame. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

2015 f150 the transmission downshifted at highway speeds on numerous occasions one time I was towing a trailer with my family in the truck and it downshifted from sixth gear to first gear without any warning at all I had to pull over on the left side of the highway after the truck locked up the rear wheels I had the transmissions lead frame replaced at the cost of $1200 through a ford dealer
