2017 FORD F-150 Complaints

We purchased this vehicle approximately 6 months ago. On our second long trip of owning it we noticed that when we would give it gas to pass vehicles it would down shift and up shift hard. No warning/error lights came on. We dud have a diagnostic check done but nothing came up. The mechanic at Nicely's said it could be the clutch bank? I read where these similar trucks are having the same issues with shifting and there are some recalls on them. Please help..my warranty was only good for 6 months therefore expired. Where and how to we go from here.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality, and the vehicle was difficult to maneuver. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the power steering electronic module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring increasingly. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The contact related to the failure of the Customer Satisfaction Program: 24S45. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon further inspection, he noticed an abnormal oil spill on the garage floor. No warning light was illuminated. The contact’s son, who is an independent mechanic, had diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the oil pan needed to be replaced. The local dealer was contacted. In addition, the contact related to the failure of Technical Service Bulletin: 23-2083; however, the vehicle was not repaired because the failure was not linked to a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 243,000. The VIN was not available.

While driving vehicle at 60 mph transmission shifted unexpectedly to a lower gear increasing the rpm’s on engine. Vehicle transmission would not operate normally after this incident. The orange colored warning “ wrench” symbol instantly came on after this incident. I drove truck to a Ford Dealership that was close by and they replaced the lead frame component on the truck . See attachment for details of repair . This appears to have corrected the issue with the transmission.

My transmission is shifting gears on its own. Sometimes it will downshift and other times it will shift up. Ford denies this problem and wants to replace it for $8000.

The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH and accelerating to overtake another vehicle, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted, and the vehicle jerked hard and then shut off. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road, shift to park, and restart the vehicle. While driving 35 MPH, the rear wheels locked up momentarily and then continued moving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called an independent mechanic to schedule an appointment. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. The VIN was not available.

1.) TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTING SLAMMING HARD INTO 1ST RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY. 2.) TRANSMISSION STUTTERING IN 2ND, 3RD & 4TH GEAR. 3.) WOULDN'T SHIFT UNTIL INTO THE HIGH RPM'S AT NORMAL ACCELERATION. 4.) HAS PUT ME AT RISK MULTIPLE TIMES ALMOST CAUSING WRECK TO OTHER DRIVERS. 5.) SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT RANDOMLY COMING ON AND OFF 6.) HAD A 3RD PARTY OVERHAUL THE TRANSMISSION & TORQUE CONVERTER BACK IN APRIL 3, 2024.

Transmission will randomly downshift several gears, causing a major safety issue.

After the 2nd year of owning the truck the transmission blew up. I paid out of pocket to replace the transmission in full & then now 4 years later the transmission blew up again. Timing chain is also broken & engine is failing. 2017 FordF150 Lariat Sport.

The truck will spontaneously downshift when driving. This creates a intense bang and vibration in the vehicle with an instantaneous speed change of vehicle. It's quite scary when it happens. I don't believe that it's any good for the drive shaft or rear end with such a sudden instantaneous transmission shift. I fear for additional damage it to the vehicle and the existing drivetrain when this occurs and could cause an accident if someone is following too close to the back of me when this happens.
