2011 FORD FUSION Complaints

While driving on a major highway during rush hour, at the posted speed limit (65MPH) , without any warning the vehicle completely lost any and all braking capability without any prior warning or indication of an issue later on after managing to avoid any type of accident or collision with anything around. I turned the car off, when turning the car back on then and only then I received a dashboard full of lights most important being “service advancetrac” and (!) BRAKE, “Check break system”. By reading many other forums with the same car and the exact issues and notifications it says that there is a glitch in the ABS module with communicates with the hydraulic control unit which caused complete and catastrophic brake failure. Which could have resulted in a major accident, risking my life, the occupants of my vehicle, and any other vehicle around. Lucky I was able to maneuver my way off to the side of the highway, and slowly make my vehicle come to a stop, then putting it in park, which would be the only way to stop the vehicle from moving or rolling back or forward. I believe this is a very serious issue that must be addressed. The car is now being diagnosed at a Ford Dealer at a cost of $200 and probably a repair cost of over $2600 according to others. I’am still waiting after spending $1000 on a car rental to make it to work so I would not risk my job. This is all more money then I even make, these companies need to be held accountable for putting the lives of me and my family and all the other people and families on the road that day. Thank god this did not end differently. The website is not allowing me to upload any photos of the light that appeared on the dashboard only after the incident occurred! I would have liked for people to see incase they experience this same issue

Abs pump failed resulting in very little brakes which almost caused a accident with my wife and daughter in the car. With no warning lights on and no indication of brake failure until they tried to avoid a car/ group of deer accident. Car had 25% brakes. They cautiously got the car home. Upon inspection no leaks or anything wrong with brake system. After doing research on the problem car is experiencing, I found that previous models of the fusion had been recalled for the same problem. 2011 and 2012 were still having problems with them, but no recall, even tho many owners had the same problem. $850 plus tax for just the part and no labor. I put a new abs pump in and corrected the problem. Ford should recall this as brakes are very important safety issue. This could kill or injure people as there is no warning at all to the failure.

I was driving on the highway and my power steering suddenly went out on me in the middle of traffic. My 2011 Ford Fusion SE had a "Power Steering Assist Fault" on my dash and it stopped working, it only had 117k miles on it. I then took it to the dealership to get it diagnosed and they said it was the Rack and Pinion that needed to be replaced. They told me that its a known problem, and for this generation of Fusion there was an extended warranty for this problem, but only 10 year/150k miles, whichever comes first and my car(12 years old) is now too old to get it replaced at no charge. Said that Ford around 2011 was introducing electric power steering for the first time. The Ford Dealership then wanted me to pay out something like $2300 to have them replace the parts needed. This was so incredibly dangerous to have this suddenly happen, I almost wrecked trying to get off the highway during rush hour. I have no clue why Ford would make a car and not make it a mandatory recall to replace parts for the electronic steering. After Googling my issue, I found many others having this same problem and getting screwed over by Ford. Please don't keep letting them get away with this. I just want to feel safe on the road in my car.

I experienced power steering failure while driving nearly causing me to have a major accident. This failure is due to a Power steering module failure. Ford had a safety recall for this (14S06), link below. There was no warning. I had a mechanic inspect and confirm the problem. The car is nearly un-drivable. I tried calling a Ford dealership (Tasca Ford, Berlin CT) they told me the recall expired. I called Ford, they told me the same thing. However, Ford's recall support page clearly states "Safety, Compliance, and Emissions Recalls do not expire. Affected vehicles remain eligible until the repair is completed." Link below. I'm at loss. The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, she became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly. The contact stated that the "Service Power Steering" message was displayed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the power steering control module. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 150,000.

on November 28, 2023, I was driving about 30 mph when my power steering completely went out. Two warnings popped up stating “service power steering now” and “service advancetrac”. The two icons with what looks like tires sliding / tcs indicator are also present. I did nothing out of the ordinary and typical driving. I wasn’t on icy roads or speeding. I didn’t hit my brakes in any manner that would trigger a mishap with sliding. But this is scary to have happened and now because it’s winter in Idaho, it will be absolutely unsafe for me to operate this vehicle. This needs to be taken care of.

The brake pedal on my 2011 Fusion compressed to the floor just barely stopping the vehicle. This happened suddenly without warning. This puts me, other drivers, and pedestrians at risk. This braking issue was confirmed by my mechanic. My mechanic said that the issue is with the hydraulic control unit (ABS part), and he said that it looks to be like the exact issue covered in the current recall for 2006-2010 Fusion models. He also replaced the brake master cylinder as part of the problem although the brake pedal is still very soft. The local Ford dealership confirmed the issue but says the ABS part is on back order thru early 2024.

As I drive the power steering is locking up and my steering assist vault keeps coming on. I have taken my vehicle to Clinton , Indiana Ford dealer & currently taking it back 11/28 for the same issue. My power steering has gone out, making it very unsafe to drive. It’s a workout to turn the car and I do not feel safe driving it.

I had started the car as usual and the dashboard had thrown an error saying power steering assist fault. The steering wheel was very difficult to move and trying to drive was very dangerous. Ford is refusing to cover this service even though the vehicles at 118k miles under the 150,000 mile mark. This is very frustrating as I have researched this is an extremely common problem for Ford Fusions made from this Assembly Plant under extended warranty 15N01 recall 15S18
