2014 FORD FUSION Complaints

My steering will is loose- I understand there is a recall #18S08 the dealer has no information about this recall

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at a slow speed, the "Engine Coolant Overtemperature" warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the water pump was replaced; however, several days later while driving 65 MPH, the "Engine Coolant Overtemperature" warning light illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed back to the dealer where the mechanic discovered a coolant intrusion into an engine cylinder. The mechanic informed the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

I was going about 30mph going straight, when all of a sudden a warning popped up on my dash stating, “steering assist fault service required”. Steering was very difficult and stiff. Once parked and turned off vehicle, warning went away.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the steering wheel was loose to the touch and was not securely attached to the steering column. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the steering wheel retaining bolt had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was advised to notify the local dealer regarding NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V167000 (Steering). After contacting the local dealer, the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 115,000.

The contact's wife owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that his wife started the vehicle, and the Service Advance Track and Steering Loss Stop Safely messages flashed on the instrument panel. The contact's wife attempted to exit the parking lot; however, the steering wheel was locked in place. The contact was called to the scene; however, despite using excessive force, the contact could not steer the vehicle due to the failure. Due to the failure, the vehicle was initially towed to the residence and was later towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with a defective power steering rack and pinion. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering); the contact was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The vehicle was unable to be driven and remained at the location where the failure occurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 277,000.

The flex plate on my vehicle was cracked. Which damaged the transmission pump. We heard what sounded like a box of rocks which quickly got louder and louder we took the car to the dealer the next day. We had no other warnings something was wrong no engine light or anything. Had this plate broken completely we likely would have crashed and our small children could have been hurt. We took it to our local Ford dealer who diagnosed the issue, but would want over $6000 to fix the issue, on top of the $225 we paid to get the issue diagnosed. So for the forseable future we have no safe vehicle.

In January 2024, while driving the Ford Fusion, I lost power (when I pressed the gas, it would accelerate). I pulled over the best I could (on a 2 lane road, no shoulder, at night). I found that my vehicle had no coolant; it had an oil change within the last 2 months and all fluids were topped off. It was towed to my mechanic and I had to call family for a ride. It was found that the coolant had leaked and burned out, thereby overheating, warping the block/head (placing it in limp mode). It was not holding compression or fluid. For a new engine and installation, I paid $6,800.67. Tonight ([XXX]) my "check manual" wrench light came on and I pulled over to find the coolant was near empty. I was an hour away from home, at night, with my younger brother in the car, in Reno, NV. It was scary waiting for my family to drive an hour to come get me. I paid $97 to have it towed (insurance paid $500). It is now awaiting a second inspection. I just bought this car in 2023 from CarMax with only 55k miles. Now I cannot get to work or college if someone will not borrow me a car and will be forced to walk (not to work, it's 30 miles away). I bought Ford Fusion Hybrid 2014 from Marine County Ford [XXX] (@51,000+ miles) The car was inspected & in “good condition”. In 5 months, 6/2022 (@61,000+ miles) I noticed a barely distinguishable noise. My mechanic discovered a tiny leak in transmission. There were NO leaks under car. This “tiny” leak took 2.0L of transmission fluid to fill, so the car was ALMOST OUT of transmission fluid. There was NO warning on the dashboard. Mechanic said the leak had to be 6-12 months old since the hole was small it had to take long time for all fluid to leak out. Same day while driving on FREEWAY, the vehicle suddenly started shaking and became almost uncontrollable, then Dashboard displayed “stop immediately”. I barely managed to steer it to the closest exit. It turned out the bearing (VERY small part) was completely destroyed & because of it the WHOLE unit needed to be replaced. It’s a huge unit 1/3 size of the car. Both dealer and FORD said the car was out of warranties (warranty issued only for 8 years/100,000 miles) not applicable @61,000 miles. They also denied coverage with extended 90 days warranty, even tho mechanic stated the leak was old. Ford has this transmission issue listed in their TSB which means it’s a KNOWN DEFECT to the dealer. The repair cost was 1/2 of car value. But Ford dealers do NOT disclose this. I did replace transmission in 8/2022, with my mechanic with the unit from used car with 54,000 miles on it, “tested and certified by the “SWEngines”, a national parts dealer. BUT that unit ALSO broke, also after 5 months, due to SAME defect of same bearing. The unit had apps. 65,000 miles. But I was watching it. I had to pay twice, for both units. This model represents DANGER on the road due to faulty transmissions that can break any time, without warning. Leaks in them are not easily detectable and even concealed by the cover absorbing oil. Engine light came on and coolant temp started to go up and down. Made it home, and started it before worm, started emitting white smoke and had it towed to a dealer. Was told by Ford there was coolant intrusion into cylinder 3 and 4. Was informed this was a common problem by the dealership.
