2015 FORD FUSION Complaints

Took vehicle to Ford dealership for routine maintenance 5 June 2024. At end of servicing, service advisor reviewed findings of the multi-point inspection with me (attached), advising all wheel lug nuts (20) on the vehicle were "swollen" and needed to be replaced; failure to do so will result in being unable to remove any wheel in the event of an emergency, i.e., flat tire, as the provided 19" lug nut wrench ( or any substitute 19" socket will not fit). Quoted price of $337.60 for nuts ($447.52 incl labor). I passed. Ordered one piece chrome lug nuts (20) for $40, and a $45 half size socket set (19.5mm) online and changed them myself. Research on the issue reveals Ford is aware of this safety defect of two piece swelling lug nuts, yet refuses to recall affected vehicle or remedy the safety issue. All affected vehicles need to be recalled and corrected by Ford immediately, our lives/safety is at risk with this issue.

Prior to leaving for a weekend trip, we filled our 2015 Ford Fusion with engine coolant, as it was low. After returning from the trip, we started the care and noticed some white smoke coming from the tail pipe. While traveling around 20mph, the check engine light on the dash began to flash, and the car began to shake violently. We pulled over, and identified that the engine coolant was empty. We stopped at a gas station to fill it up. Upon returning home, we scheduled an appointment with our independent mechanic, to check for a coolant leak. He was able to recreate the white smoke, after noticing that the engine coolant was empty again. He filled it back up, and 24 hours later, the coolant was empty, despite the car not being driven. He advised that there is a possible leak, and he would pressure test it. After testing it, he confirmed that there is no leak in the coolant lines, however, there is a suspected leak within the engine.

The contact stated that while the vehicle was turned off with the gear shifter in park(P), the vehicle began to roll forward while the contact was in front of the vehicle. The vehicle was on an incline and independently stopped after rolling forward. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the mechanic informed the contact of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) which the mechanic linked to the failure. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

235/45R18, the tires wander on grooved highways (groove wander). They throw the car left and right. This is a safety concern as it creates dangerous instability. Looks like the tire tread is incompatible with some road surfaces (grooved highways) and creates a safety hazard (car violently swerving at highway speeds). Wheel balancing and alignment was done to eliminate these as potential contributors. The store refuses to accept the tires for a return.

Took the car in to have a tire replaced and was told the swollen lug nuts prevent them from removing the tire. I had issues with lug nuts on another wheel but was able to get them off and replaced them. I shouldn't have to be paying $27 for lug nuts that are defective.

The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred to the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V167000 (Steering) which was linked to the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power, and the contact observed smoke coming from the engine compartment. The blank warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N12. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 156,000. The VIN was not available.

Took my car to the dealership for an oil change and tire rotation. The technician told me they cannot get the tires off to rotate them because the tire lug nuts were swollen. He asked me if I wanted to replace them. I agreed after he said that if I were to get a flat tire it would be hard to get it off to fix it. Basically, this issue became a safety one. I never had an issue with swollen lug nuts with previous cars I had own. Thank you for gathering these type of issues.

The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure due to coolant intrusion in cylinder #3 and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was advised to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 95,380.
