2013 FORD FUSION Complaints

My fuel tank has an excessive build up of gasses and it causes a loud burping noise at the fuel door flap. I do have a Video of this incident.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed at night, the low-beam headlamps failed to adequately illuminate the roadway. The contact activated the high-beam headlights to see the roadway. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and Auto Zone Auto Parts, where the headlamp bulbs were replaced several times; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V553000 (Exterior Lighting) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

My daughter in law just had her brakes serviced at Jack Demmer Ford and the next day the power steering suddenly failed while she was driving with my grand daughter in the back seat. She was unable to steer the car but did manage to stop safely. I understand the Electric Power Steering Assist (EPSA) failure is a very common problem on this vehicle and has been recalled on this model and year but not on her VIN. Now Ford says they cannot even look at the car for 3 weeks so she is driving my car while I will be driving hers with no power steering. I have owned and driven cars from 1966 to 2023 and never had power steering fail while the car was in motion. Older cars that never had power steering are still easy to steer and drive but the 2013 Fusion Hybrid is very difficult and almost impossible at lower speeds meaning she absolutely cannot drive the car. Amazing how she can get her car into the Ford dealership for brake maintenance but not for a immediate safety issue like not being able to steer.

The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the engine temperature gauge increased to HOT, with the battery message displayed on the instrument panel. There was a burning odor present inside the cabin of the vehicle along with smoke coming from the engine compartment. The contact immediately parked the vehicle and contacted a tow truck company. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the water pump had failed causing damage to the engine. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 167,000.

Although this vehicle is 10 years old it has only logged less than 17k miles (near new condition). A few months back it was noted that the backlighting on the console, steering wheel, interior door panels and overhead console were inoperative under non-daylight conditions. At night, it's driving blind from an instrumentation perspective. Controls cannot be located as they cannot be seen. This backlighting has a mind of its own. Upon entering the vehicle all the lighting in question lights up and then times out (?) Activating outside lighting (headlights) when you expect and need the backlighting, it just isn't there. Disconnecting the battery for 12 hours (reboot) did nothing to solve the problem. Personally, I believe the slap-happy lighting engineers went way overboard with warning and flashing lights on this vehicle. The lighting in question is there, not just when needed. Due to this over-engineering I refuse to pay shop labor prices to troubleshoot or replace parts on a premium vehicle. As this car has become the "Recall Queen" I feel it was placed on the market well before its time and as a consumer I'm now the guinea pig in the field. Never another Ford. NOTE: Uploaded file shows console section and backlighting is ON. Ignition is off and if car is started the backlighting eventually turns off. Activating the headlights the console and all other backlighting remains dead.

The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the "Power Steering Fault" message was displayed, and the steering wheel was difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was driven to the local dealer who diagnosed that the steering shaft torque sensor was faulty, and the steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The Cooling System Failed as I was on 485 interstate in traffic and it almost caused a serious accident, as the speed limit was 70 in that area I was almost rear ended due to the car idling down suddenly with the OVER HEAT WARNING flashing. It is available for inspection upon request. I start the car sometimes and instantly OVER HEAT WARNING appears on dash. The problem has not been fixed by dealer, I've had multiple mechanics replace new parts an still resulting in same issue OVER HEATING, I must add the car isn't OVER Heating it's a false reading but I can not drive the car in a safe manner if it continues to do this while in traffic at high rates of speed, very very dangerous other drivers are not aware of the sudden change of speed when this issue happens. There were no PRE WARNINGS, issue started back in February 2023, it is now May 31, 2023. I'm still making payments on this vehicle monthly, I'm not able to enjoy the car in a safe manner because of this ongoing issue, I really could use some HELP with this issue as my safety and the safety of other drivers are the main focus here. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

I’ve received a letter in March regarding this safety recalls and I not been contacted by the manufacturer for any remedy. I have not had this vehicle for a full six months. Now the break fluids leaks, there’s an issue with a gasket, and I cannot longer drive vehicle due to the smell of something burning. The recall states it’s an increasing risk of a crash. I have to search for transportation to and from work because I refuse to cause harm to myself or others. Safety Risk IF THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKS, YOUR VEHICLE MAY EXPERIENCE AN INCREASE IN BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL TOGETHER WITH A REDUCTION IN THE RATE OF DECELERATION OVER TIME, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. Ford should provide another vehicle as a loaner until this issue has been resolved.
