2015 FORD FUSION Complaints

This car has cut off (lose power)twice while driving. Crank back up fine . It’s definitely a hazard if your on the interstate.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the vehicle was idling roughly and emitting white smoke from the exhaust pipe. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to a local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that there was coolant intrusion into one of the cylinders. The cylinder was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to the manufacturer Technical Service Bulletin: 19-2139 Coolant Intrusion into the Cylinder (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

While attempting to pull out of a parking space, the electric power steering was not functioning properly and it was very difficult to turn the wheel. Warning lights were illuminated for "Hill Start Assist Not Available", "Service AdvanceTrac", and "Steering Assist Fault Service Required". The vehicle was undrivable and this could have been dangerous had this failed while driving. The vehicle was towed to a dealership, which replaced "faulty steering rack and rusted clamp" in addition to corresponding bolts. The car's mileage was 49,466. This appears to be the same problem as NHTSA complaints #11569485, #11569595, and others. Similarly, this failure seems related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering), which applies to other 2015 Ford Fusions, but not this specific VIN for unclear reasons. Ford was notified of the failure but said the only recourse was to file a complaint with the NHTSA.

One night my car was completely off. The key wasn’t in the ignition and I woke up in the middle of the night and my back brick lights were on. And the next day I couldn’t start my car. I’m not sure if it drained my battery and I had to buy a new battery.

My 2015 Ford Fusion 1.5L Ecoboost has exhibited behaviors that are reflected in TSB 22-2229 or the most updated version of this TSB. Ever since I purchased the vehicle in January 2023, I have had to refill the coolant reservoir more than 5 times, and have had blueish-white smoke billow from the exhaust. Just today, February 12, 2024, when leaving my house, upon acceleration, the same tinted smoke was expelled from my exhaust, leaving a cloud in two different spots in my neighborhood. And when I left work later this evening, I had to refill my coolant AGAIN because the reservoir was empty! If Ford knows this is an issue, why has no recall happened?

Additionally, the steering wheel shuddered significantly. The contact drove to a parking lot and parked the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering suspension and the steering column were locked. The dealer determined that the steering gear needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

We notice antifreeze was disappearing at a very fast rate without a sign of a leak found out it was leaking in the engine

The contact became aware that the electric power steering assist was not functioning properly. The Hill Start Assist and Service Advance Traction Control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the steering gear motor. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V632000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 150,000.

The steering wheel locked while driving the vehicle and warning lights immediately came on advising "Hillstart Assist Not Available" and "Service AdvanceTrac" leaving the vehicle undrivable and in a dangerous position. The steering wheel then began making mechanical whirring sounds and jerking left and right on its own. There were no warning lights or signs prior to this issue happening while driving, the issue was confirmed by the two truck driver who rescued the vehicle as well as the mechanic who tried to fix the car. Mechanic advises this car has a recall for this issue for vehicle's year, make and model, and state, but Ford says it does not apply to the vehicle. Mechanic disagrees and believes this to be a gross safety issue.
