2011 FORD FUSION Complaints

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that after her daughter returned to the vehicle in a parking lot, she started the vehicle and became aware that the vehicle had lost power steering assist functionality and the steering wheel was difficult to steer. The contact stated that her daughter became aware that the "steering assist failure" warning light was illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the power steering assist booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The dealer informed the contact that there had been a manufacturer Customer Satisfaction Program Number: 15N01 (EPAS Power Steering Efforts Steering); however, the contact was informed that she had exceeded the mileage and warranty extension for the service campaign. The failure mileage was approximately 199,000.

The contact stated while driving approximately 40-45 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality with the serviced power steering and advanced track system warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled into the nearest parking lot to turn off and restart the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The contact inspected the fuses, relays, and battery, all of which had not malfunctioned. The contact manually steered the vehicle while driving. The contact spoke with the dealer who confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

While driving on the street, my car’s brakes were suddenly inoperative. The parking brake light and a brake system warning light were illuminated on my dash just as I went to use the pedal. (“Check brake system”). Despite pressing the pedal to the floor, I was unable to get the car to slow down at all. I was approaching a red light and had to shift the car into neutral, then use my parking brake to bring the car to a complete stop to narrowly avoid hitting the car in front of me. After turning the car off, then on again, the indicating lights disappeared and the car, from what I could see, acted as usual. The incident was completely spontaneous and posed a huge threat for not only myself, but drivers around me. After towing the car to my nearby mechanic I was told it was a possible problem with the Hydraulic brake/control assembly and ABS system. The estimate for repairs was nearly $3,000. My car is available for inspection upon request. After research, it appears it is a relatively common problem with my car’s make and model. Ford models of years previous to mine have seemingly had a similar issue, as well as others that were the same as mine. The damage possible with this manufacturing error is inexcusable. Completely spontaneous and at an exorbitant price for repair.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that an abnormal, fuel odor was coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact then noticed that while refueling the vehicle, fuel started to leak from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed the fuel leak. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V793000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact reached out to the manufacturer who referred her to a local dealer for a diagnostic test. The contact was informed by the dealer that additional work was needed to determine the cause of the failure, which would cost an additional fee. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000.

Upon getting into my car last Sunday 02/05/2023, a message displayed on my dashboard indicating “power steering assist fault” and the steering wheel was extremely difficult to turn (I am an athletic young individual). This made it impossible to get out of my lot behind my apartment thus making me not able to use the car and had to take the bus. I called Ford who said I had taken my car into a Ford dealer for recall 15s18 and 15n10 and they reprogrammed the steering module in 2020. I am told that I am passed the extension of this recall as my car is past the warranty date which was up in 2021. This is extremely frustrating because I am being penalized for taking my car in to get the recall fixed when all they did was re-program the steering module. This is a safety issue and I am reading is unfortunately common to have issues after the re-program and thus not be covered by the recall. The recall should have been to replace the power steering modules, since they are faulty. Because my car was taken in before 10 years and 150,000 I should not have to pay $2200 now only 3 years later. I took my car to a local trusted mechanic who ran the codes and sure enough said that a code came up saying faulty steering control module. I hope more people file complaints so there can be another recall issued. Thank you for your time. Katie

I was driving my 2011 Ford Fusion home with my new born baby and my power steering locked up on me. It started beeping stating assault steering over and over. Leaving me stuck in the middle of the highway.

The electric steering power goes out while driving almost wrecked into someone at a light turning now ford won’t fix it because it’s been over 10 years but my miles are still under 100,000 miles

My power steering went out in my 2011 Ford Fusion. When researching the possible cause, I found out there was a recall on the power steering for the model of my car. However, there is a 10 year or 150k mile limit on this recall. I couldn't understand how Ford could put a statue of limitations on a dangerous and faulty product; so, I took my car to a Ford dealer to get this issue resolved. They denied me the recall but said they could fix the power steering for $1800. I cannot afford that price. I'm submitting a request on here in hopes there's something that can be done. I just don't understand how there is a limit on a safety recall.
