2013 FORD FUSION Complaints

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine started overheating. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the head gasket was blown. The contact called the local dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V551000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 123,277.

I was told by the local dealership that the lug nuts are swollen and if not replaced will crack and cause risk to the wheels coming off.

Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V250000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. Consumer stated complaint can be closed problem was with the power steering.

Lug nuts are swollen and required excessive time and labor at the Ford dealer to remove them and replace them. If I required road tire repair I would not be able to remove a tire. I was at dealer for oil change and tire rotation. Total time at dealer was 4 hours.

Upon restarting the vehicle, the vehicle would not shift out of park. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact called a mechanic to the vehicle and the vehicle was diagnosed with needing the shifter cable replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V471000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the shifter cable replaced; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 191,000.

My coolant has been disappearing at an exceptional rate in my 2013 Ford Fusion with a 1.6L Ecoboost engine. About once every week or so my "Coolant Level Running Low" message comes on and I have to add more coolant. This went on for several months, no dangerous problem, just buying coolant regularly and wondering where it's all going. No sign of coolant under my car. I was driving to work when the warning message "Engine Coolant Overtemperature" came on and my car stalled. Thankfully I was able to pull over safely. The coolant was low again and the engine overheated. I read other people with the same year, make, model, and engine also had the same issue - coolant vanishing causing the car to overheat and stall, some resulting in fire. I believe this is due to the coolant leaking into the hot exhaust system as safety recall 12S41 describes. Because my car was manufactured in 2013 and not 2012, my VIN is not listed to be recalled despite the same issue on my same make, model, and engine. The Ford dealership would not fix it as a recall. I'm grateful mine didn't result in a fire this time unlike some other unlucky folks in my same position.

The steering locked up 2 times. Had I been driving when this happened it could have caused a serious accident. The problem has not been inspected by anyone at this time. I received a Steering Assist Malfunction message both times when starting my vehicle. After shutting the car off and waiting a little while and then starting the car back up the message is no longer there and the steering seems to be fine. But again if this happens when Im driving it, it could result in a serious accident.

Just before the December holiday, my car was making a notable noise. My local mechanic has diagnosed it to be a transmission failure at 99k miles. The local Ford dealership still has not looked at it and can't for weeks to come because of Covid (1/3 of the mechanics plus the Service Manager and assistant are out). They told us that the tool needed to repair this problem will not be available until April because it needs to be manufactured and distributed. I am left without a car, thrown into the market 2 years ahead of my financial plan, without assets from my car and having difficulty getting a loan because of the hyperinflation of car prices, particularly used. I am quite stranded.

The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

2.when it came on this time it said “Power steering assist fault” see manual then shut completely off on me. I cranked it back up and it ran for about 30 seconds and shut off again. I cranked it up again and the wrench illuminated and stayed on so I drove it home and parked it Sunday. Now I am bringing it in to you all. It seems to be some serious power/electric issues going on with this car.
