2013 FORD TAURUS Complaints

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. A message indicating that the power steering had failed was displayed. The contact parked the vehicle. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

The Power Steering Assist Fault message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering gear assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact owns a 2013 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle inadvertently lost power steering functionality. The contact stated that the failure also occurred while making turns and while starting the vehicle. A message indicating that the Power Steering Assist was inoperable was displayed. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 65 MPH and making a turn with his child in a car seat in the rear seat, the failure recurred. The vehicle fishtailed and was nearly rear-ended by a semi-truck. The contact used physical strength to steer the vehicle to the side of the road and slammed on the brake pedal. The contact stated that he turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the steering wheel responded as needed. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

Check Fuel Fil Inlet service warning. Capless gas and no issues but only getting 13 mpg

Power Steering Assist fault light came on in dash with loss of power steering. Ford has recalls for Ford Taurus from 2/2012 and 9/2012 recalling for this exact issue. Ford advises my car was not covered due to being manufactured 3/2012 despite coming from same assembly area, Chicago, as other covered vehicles. Repair shop I brought my vehicle to diagnosed issue and vehicle will be towed to Ford dealership for repair.

An independent mechanic was contacted and stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering) and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering). The failure mileage was 122,000.

While driving my vehicle at 50 mph, the power steering went out and the stability control light went off. The vehicle almost crashed. There was no water, rain, or slippage of any kind. After pulling over, shutting the car off, and restarting, did the car resume normal operation. After researching this problem, I located a recall, 15s18, which describes my exact situation. However, after contacting my local dealer they said my vehicle was not included in the recall.

My water pump started to leak at 114398 miles. The crankshaft oil seal had to be replaced. This repair because of the flawed design cost 3,245.78. I would like ford to refund the cost of the repair.

This '2013 Ford Taurus was purchased brand new Feb. '2013. Up until 3 months ago the car has been perfect. Since then I have had issues with the power steering locking up when first starting, but then after a minute or so it's fine. A week ago it locked up and would not release. A warning showed on my dash screen related to the issue. It was towed to a local repair shop who explained it has Electronic Steering and that it is probably a failing rack/motor/control module which are part of the rack & pinion assembly. Ford's two safety issues dated May 27, 2015 state: requires either a software update for the power steering control module or to replace the steering gear. When I contacted Ford locally they claim my vin # shows the car was assembled in Chicago and a recall does not appy. A recall # showing many steering complaints is: 15V340000. A case file has been created at Ford corporate C/S Support related to a recall concern. How can Ford use this "assembly" issue, Feb. '2013, as an excuse for not providing a recall for a "VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE-STEERING", stating the recall did not cover my car due to the assembly location. What happens if I am driving down the road and the steering locks up? Someone could get seriously injured or worse. There have been many, many complaints about this steering issue and it SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE REGARDLESS OF WHERE IT WAS ASSEMBLED!! It is as though Ford is trying to avoid the cost of a defective part/system issue that has to be repaired or replaced. I am not a mechanic but in my opinion this is NOT AN ASSEMBLY issue but defective part(s).
