My 2016 GMC Canyon had a power steering failure and stability warning light while turning off highway with my grandson in the truck. Power steering returned after turning truck off and restarting. The next day, I took it to Rogersville Chevrolet to check and change oil since it was due, however, they could not find anything other than a stability track warning in history. 2 weeks later happened again repeatedly. Dropped it off at dealership, dealer states steering needs total replacement. It is available to inspect, I have not had it replaced yet, dealer asking for over $2000.00 to fix it. Poses safety hazard due to unexpected loss of steering at anytime. Also, this is the same issues that was the subject of recall in the 2015 GMC Canyon. Power steering intermittently failing making steering very difficult without warning beforehand. Warning light appears post failures.

My vehicle a 2016 GMC Canyon loses power steering making it hard to control and it happens driving out of the garage but also sometimes without warning while driving it. One time it happened on a curve and I almost had a headon collision. Dealership, Von Holsen GMC in Ashland Wi. said it is the identical problem that is in a recall for 2015's. Diagnosis by the dealership confirmed that this is the identical to the recall. But they will not cover it because mine is an early 2016. I request that the recall be expanded as they do not have all the vehicles that are effected. Thank you , [XXX] Cable, Wi. 54821 [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Power steering suddenly goes out while driving. I get a ringing and visual notification notifying me that stabilitrak and power steering are not working properly. I have to steer the truck manually. The next day it drives correctly again for 5-10 miles then the exact same issue reappears, and I lose all power steering while on the road at full speed. This issue is recalled in 2015 GMC Canyons, but not on my 2016 model. Please address this issue asap. I'm being told I have to have the whole rack replaced for $2400.

The power steering has locked up twice. Once on 9-12-2022 and again on 9-13-2022. the first time was in a school zone going 25 mph. The 2nd time was in the same area goin 50 mph. The 2nd time it locked up, I recovered before hitting a guard rail. I have an appointment with Wyatt Johnson GMC Buick in Clarkesville, Tennessee on Saturday 9-17-2022 to diagnose the problem. A message to service Stabilitrak and service power steering drive with care came on.

The malfunction is: no power, no crank, no electricity at all, can not use key fob to lock/unlock, radio does not work, dash does not work, literally 0 lights 0 power when key is in ignition to and turning to start or when key is not in ignition. The positive battery terminal also overheats to extreme temps which caused my dad a 3rd degree burn since positive terminals should never be hot. Dates of malfunction that have left me stranded 7/16, 8/3, 8/5, 8/11, 8/12, 8/28. I have video evidence of the malfunction on each of those dates. The way we got it to fix is by banging on the battery. on 8/12 I brought the truck to the dealership because I banged on the battery I got error codes- Engine Power Reduced, and Stabilitrak Offline. The engine was shaking very badly, I have video. hey have the truck for a week, get it to trigger the same incident and determine its a bad battery cell that could only be detected when the malfunction was happening. They replaced the battery. On 8/28 the same malfunction happens except nothing is fixing it, not banging on the battery, not waiting 24+ hours. Prior to me buying the truck on June 28th the previous owner has an invoice in the glove box dated May 25th to try to fix the same issues. I bought this from the dealership not the previous owner. The vehicle still sits at the dealership trying to diagnose the issue.

I have had half a dozen incidents in the past month in which I lose electronic power steering and stability control functions. The display will flash a warning and then I lose all power steering. This is extremely dangerous as it is very difficult to steer the truck. It has happened at various speeds. You must shut off the truck and restart to make it go away. This is the exact behavior/issue that was in the 2015 models that have been recalled. My research is showing alot of 2016 models being affected and I believe the recall should be extended to the 2016 models.

I have been having the issue of the power steering/stabilitrak going out randomly since Feb 2021. I have taken it to 2 different dealerships, both told me the power steering pump is fine & nothing is wrong. The power steering went out completly & now a third dealership is saying exactly what happened with the 2015 models (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 21V213000). A $2200 fix! I am keeping my paperwork so I can turn it in whenever the NHTSA FINALLY decides to issue a recall.
