2015 GMC CANYON Complaints

The contact owns a 2015 GMC Canyon. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering assist. The power steering assist warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull over on the side of the road and turned the vehicle off and waited a few minutes then restarted the vehicle. The contact was able to drive home safely. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the power steering assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,000.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the contact was informed that the vehicle could not be diagnosed until after the holiday. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,567.

While driving, the power steering completely stopped working. I brought the vehicle to the dealership and they replaced the entire steering rack at my expense.

The contact was able to park on the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that after restarting the vehicle, he continued driving to his destination, but experience the failure for a second time within 40 miles. The contact stated that he continued driving to his residence, while experiencing the failure. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the steering gear torque sensor cover assembly to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,500.

the system failure is the power steering control module rack and components The safety risk is loss of power steering assist, no traction control, StabiliTrak message on dash, abs and traction control lights is on, don't feel safe to drive. The problem is confirmed by a dealer. The component has not been inspected. Yes, there are warning messages on the dash, and they appear in February 2022. A loss or reduction in power steering assist may increase the risk of a crash. In my opinion, this issue has to be solved and fixed by the dealer at no cost to the customer.

GMC Service Bulletin - PI1429B Ignition Key cannot be removed and /or does not rotate to the off position. If you place the truck in park and turn off the switch - the key does not rotate to the off position (it only goes to the accessory position) so you cannot remove the key. You have to start it back up and move the truck forward and backward a number of times until the key is able to be removed. There are numerous posts on GMC and Chevrolet forums throughout the internet on this same issue. Cannot imagine why this safety concern is not being addressed with a recall. Gear shift assembly or Part # 23397472 is the most common posts. This happened numerous times but on 03/23/2022 it has happened every time I have tried to turn the truck off.

Power steering failure and stabilitrak. Stopped and turned off ignition for a few seconds. Power steering started working but stabilitrak light is still on and steering feels a little loose.

Key gets stuck in the ignition switch. Truck will turn off but key will not come out. It is sometimes hours before the key will release. The dash lights stay on during the period the key is stuck and the battery dies. I have to leave my truck unattended, for extended amounts of time, with the key in the ignition. This has been going on since two years after the purchase of the truck, as new, in 2015. Technicians and the dealership have not been able to repair. An online search indicates this is a widespread issue and Gm has issued a bulletin. This needs to be a recall.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the lower shaft gear assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering). The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
