2024 GMC SIERRA 1500 Complaints

I was driving home from family’s house 2 hrs away and got home late. When I got home I noticed the upper front grille assembly or top chrome trim piece for the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate flew off at some point while driving. That could have caused an accident for others and myself but luckily no one is harmed.

I purchased a new 2024 GMC Sierra. I brought it to the dealer for the engine recall on the 6.2liter. It passed the inspection and the oil was changed to a heavier weight. After the recall was satisfied and the oil was changed to the heavier weight, around 45,000 miles, the engine failed at highway speeds while pulling a trailer and left my entire family stranded on the side of the highway; late at night. The engine completely failed and would not re-start. After researching the issue online and watching mechanics tear down these engines and suggest the problem, I believe that GMC has created great harm to the customers who've purchased the vehicles with 6.2L engines by allowing us to drive hundreds of thousands of "ticking time-bombs" across the country. Furthermore, it is absolutely infuriating to learn that problems clearly identifiable starting in 2021 were not addressed until a recall in April 2025. I strongly believe that G.M. has mishandled this information and put customers into vehicles that are verifiably unreliable and should correct the problem/take the hit to replace these faulty engines. !!TIMEBOMBS!! Engine started making clicking noises at highway speed.the vehicle lost power and was difficult to start. The 2024 gmc sierra was driven three blocks the a GM dealership and it was determined that the engine had failed. It took two months to complete the repair by replacing the engine with a rebuilt one

I have a 2024 gmc 6.2 original motor blew up at 39,000 miles. Got a new motor installed it blew up at 44,000. Now they are about to install the third motor after it’s already had two of the same failure. Second failure broke down on the interstate were three lanes turned into one above a hill. It was very dangerous.

Driving at highway speed vehicle began making odd engine noises and then lost power, pulled over and power continued to diminish until vehicle was no longer operable.

On 4/30/25- I took my truck to the dealership due to receiving a recall notice (engine propulsion) in the GM app. No codes camp up and got the all clear. Dealer did not change oil to 0/40 nor air filter. Advised GM had not provided the recommended oil yet On 10/06/25- the Engine propulsion fix was completed. Oil changed to 0/ w40. Engine module reprogramming completedNext. On 3/07/26- dropped off my Sierra truck at dealership. Ticking sound. Confirmed engine replacement was needed even after the oil viscosity change. 4/22/26- Replaced engine assembly, radiator, gaskets, hose, belt kit. At the time of the engine replacement, the truck had only 16,756 miles. As of 8/25/26, having an oil compression test completed as the replacement engine has been excessively burning oil. Needed the dealership to complete an official text for GM, but from checking the oil, the vehicle has short @ 1quart of oil every 1,000 miles.

At approximately 14,000 miles, the 6.2L V8 engine experienced a major failure due to a spun main bearing, which resulted in the complete replacement of the engine. The vehicle remained at the dealership for more than 60 days while the repair was completed. After receiving the vehicle back, it operated without any significant issues until approximately 30,000 miles, when the engine experienced another major failure. This second failure was attributed to the lifters, and the engine required substantial repairs and ultimately had to be rebuilt. Having two major engine failures before reaching 30,000 miles—first requiring a complete engine replacement and then requiring the replacement engine to be rebuilt—has raised serious concerns regarding the vehicle’s long-term reliability and durability.

The molding cover for the hood fell off by Hwy speed, and recently we I went to oil change after I get the car the technician said the bolt for tie the oil thing is not correct and it’s not for this car and this was the reason for leaking and need to replace with right one.

I was driving north/east on [XXX] just outside of [XXX]. After accelerating to give another driver room to move out of his lane that was ending, I lost propulsion/power. The Sierra went into Neutral and told me something like "Press Start to resume". I had to immediately get off the interstate as I was rapidly losing speed. I was able to pull over to the shoulder of the interstate on the right, just before exit 2. After getting the vehicle parked, I was never able to restart the vehicle. The motor would not turn over. The display screens kept cycling between a blank display and a display that looked like the vehicle was on but the engine never turned on. When I tried to start the car, I got a message of "conditions not correct for shift". We could not even get the vehicle into Neutral. I used OnStar to get State Patrol to show up and put lights behind us for safety. OnStar should have a recording of this call. This was on Saturday XXX in the ballpark of 2:30 pm central time. I would imagine the officer also filed a report, but I did not get it. The vehicle was towed to Billion GMC in Iowa City. Billion GMC said their initial suspicion is the 6.2L motor failed / locked up on us as this is know issue that is subject of a class action lawsuit. These vehicles ARE NOT SAFE to be on the highway, someone is going to get seriously injured, please do everything you can to get these 6.2L engines off the road before someone dies. On [XXX] I was driving my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Vin # [XXX] on a major highway in Houston when without warning the engine shut off, stranding me in the middle of busy traffic. I was able to get to the shoulder and restart the truck, but no warning lights came on so I continued on my drive when approximately 20 minutes later, while still on a busy freeway, the engine shut off again. I was able to restart the truck and within another 15 minutes the check engine light appeared, the engine lost power and started making a loud rattling noise. Roughly 2 minutes later, as I was attempting to pull over to the shoulder and safety, the truck shut off and would not restart. This was the 3rd time for it to stall out on a busy freeway which was very dangerous for myself and the other drivers. I contacted the local Chevy dealership and they sent a tow truck out to tow the truck back to their dealership service center. I was later contacted by a service advisor that said they found a code P0016. He informed me that the engine would need to be replaced. As of today 8/11/26, they are still waiting on backordered parts to arrive before they can even start on any repairs.
