2023 GMC YUKON Complaints

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon XL. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated to respond and made an abnormal grinding sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Vehicle was brought to dealership Fountain Buick GMC 8701 S Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, FL 32809 (866) 465-4364 for recall on engine. Dealership told our company that they were unable to repair or diagnose the recall this month June 2025. Vehicle has had an intermittent check engine light from time to time. I was instructed that it was safe to still drive the vehicle.

I am filing a complaint regarding my 2023 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate, equipped with the 6.2L L87 V8 engine, which is currently under NHTSA Recall 24V-266 for a potential engine failure due to defective bottom-end components. I received the official recall notice indicating that the issue poses a serious safety risk, including possible loss of propulsion and engine failure without warning. However, despite this being a mandatory safety recall, I’ve been informed by my dealership that no remedy is currently available, and I have been provided no timeline for repair or inspection. This effectively renders my $115,000 vehicle unsafe for normal use, yet I am left with no clear recourse, no loaner vehicle, and no repair timeline. I am now forced to restrict my driving to short errands only to reduce risk—completely unacceptable for a vehicle of this cost, class, and usage expectation. I am requesting that NHTSA formally investigate the timeliness and adequacy of GM's response to this recall and consider enforcing provisions of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act that require manufacturers to remedy defects within a reasonable timeframe. Thousands of affected owners are currently left without a fix for a potentially dangerous engine flaw. Vehicle surged, lost all power while driving, switched to neutral and would not restart.

Vehicle was traveling on interstate and lost power/propulsion and automatically shifted to neutral. Grave danger for eminent death/injury as a result of possible accident.

I am reporting a serious engine failure in my 2023 GMC Yukon XL (5.3L Ecotec3 V8) at approximately 68,775 miles. The engine began to run rough with a loud chatter noise, and both the check engine light and traction control light activated. Diagnostic tests at the dealer (F.C. Kerbeck GMC) confirmed a P0300 random misfire code and revealed that the lifter on cylinder #5 had collapsed, causing damage to the camshaft lobe. The repair required removing the cylinder head and replacing the lifter, camshaft, pushrods, valves, and associated gaskets and seals. Although I was told this was covered as a ‘goodwill repair’ by GM, I was still charged $3,450 for miscellaneous charges. I find this highly concerning and question whether these charges are consistent with GM’s stated goodwill or warranty policies. In my opinion, a known lifter design flaw requiring such an extensive repair should not result in out-of-pocket costs for the vehicle owner. This failure resulted in a severe misfire and significant performance issues that I believe raise serious safety concerns, including the potential for sudden loss of power while driving. I am submitting this report to NHTSA to ensure this issue is documented and to request that it be included in any broader investigation into GM lifter system failures. I own a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali XL (VIN: [XXX] ) currently under active recall for the L87 6.2L engine. GM has no remedy available and has acknowledged a risk of complete engine failure and loss of propulsion, which could occur without warning. This is the primary vehicle I have for transporting my family of seven, including a toddler. I am significantly upside down on the loan, and the dealership cannot guarantee it is safe to drive. Driving 58 mph then felt like I slammed on my brakes out of no where then sped up on its own to 42 mph then wouldn’t accelerate but rpm was at 5000. Shortly after my reduced power warning came on. Well the next 12 hours I went to reverse and had nothing! Now dealership is saying unknown timeframe for it to be fixed.

Major recall on Yukon with no remedy listed - unable to sell vehicle or trade in with open recall.

SUV appears to get stuck in gear or struggle shifting causing jerky behavior and erratic drivability. Stopped driving and had it towed to dealer. Dealer stated Engine Code P0747 shown. Dealer stated faulty transmission valve body but no ETA on parts. Told to keep driving unless condition gets worse. Vehicle is less than 2 years old and 20,000 miles. Check engine light goes on and off relating to the same condition and sometimes having shift issues.
