2023 GMC YUKON Complaints

Good afternoon. Our rental car we picked up from the Denver International Airport on [XXX] had numerous incidents of emergent braking at highway and non highway speeds which were reported to Sixt ( car rental) and documented on the dates in which they occurred, [XXX] (7-8 occurrences ) and [XXX] (3 occurrences-2 after a car wash). On the day in which the first occurrences happened, the car rental company representative from Sixt, 3way connected me with a mechanic from Annex who advised washing the vehicle to ensure the sensors were clean. I did proceed to wash the vehicle on 1.25.25. This same company, Annex Automotive, then evaluated the vehicle on 1.29.25 after emergency breaking occurrences continued of which [XXX] was the worst. On [XXX] there were no vehicles in front of or behind us nor to the sides of us and the roads were completely clear. It was also dark out. Attached you will find evaluation with validation there is a mechanical concern with the vehicle. On [XXX] the extremely unsafe occurrence of emergent braking occurred with skidding tires and the doors locking and unlocking at the same time occurred. This vehicle was completely unsafe to drive. I, as well as my passengers/family, are very lucky the road conditions were moderate on [XXX] and clear on [XXX], or these emergency Breaking issues could have caused a serious accident. There were a total of five of us in the vehicle when all of these occurred. I am from Minnesota and have a Yukon XL so I am comfortable with this vehicle This was the scariest vehicle experience I have ever encountered. The company did tow the vehicle on 1.29.25. We own a 2023 GMC Yukon Denali with the 6.2L engine. On [XXX], I was driving to work and merging into traffic on [XXX] just south of Nashville. When getting up to speed, the engine shut off and the truck started to decelerate. Only warning light was notification to "Hit Start Button" - which off course I was feverously doing as I was in rush-hour traffic. Luckily, I was able to move across two lanes and came to a stop on the freeway shoulder. Called OnStar services where they sent a tow truck, but the driver didn't know how to tow the truck since he was unable to shift into 'neutral' as the electronic system didn't allow that without the motor on. A second tow truck was sent by my local dealer and then they had to 'drag' the Yukon onto the tow truck bed so they could haul it. After the dealer reviewed the issue, determined we needed an entire motor as the engine oil had metal shavings in it and had frozen the motor. We are one of seven vehicles at our dealership waiting on a new 6.2L motor. GM has provided a large SUV rental during the time we have been waiting. The Onstar module becomes inoperable due to a fault with the onstar module. This is a known issue on many forums and GM has yet to issue a fix with mass reported Onstar module failures. This fault renders useless the safety systems.

While driving with my cruise control set to 75, my vehicle began losing speed and power for no apparent reason. I was able to fortunately pull over on the shoulder of the road when the engine turned off without pushing the stop button. At this point I put the vehicle in park and tried to restart the vehicle with no luck. It was at this time I contacted my husband and he was able to come load the vehicle on a trailer to tow to our GMC Dealership. This happened on January 28, 2025. There was 60,407 miles on the odometer. The dealership was able to tell us that the motor seized due to a bearing failure. I am glad that I was able to get over to the shoulder of the road and was not in the middle of road construction. This was a scary situation that could have been much worse.

Car suddenly stopped while traveling. Shut down. Took to dealership and they said it’s a catastrophic engine failure.

Vehicle went to GM for recall repairs on 02/24/25 the morning after when I cranked my car it was dead. Jumped the car off then began hearing a "clicking noise" GM advised I replace my serpentine belt as they noticed it needed replacement when doing the recall repairs. 02/26/25 serpentine belt was replaced but car still seemed to have power issues when cranking. 02/27/25 car barely cranked then while driving down the highway I lost all power and power steering to the vehicle. There was no warning, no check engine lights etc. The screen went black then car shut off then the screen said "press start to restart." I was BARELY able to get the vehicle safely off the road with vehicles in front, behind, and in the other lanes. It could have caused a fatal accident. GMC still has my vehicle with NO UPDATE on replacement engine timeline.

Recently, while driving my 2023 GMC Yukon Denali XL Ultimate (with only 19,457 miles) on the expressway, my vehicle suddenly lost all power and steering at high speed—without any warning lights, noises, or alerts. One moment everything was normal, the next I was gliding in silence, completely powerless in a 6,000 lb vehicle surrounded by fast-moving traffic. I was nearly sideswiped multiple times as I tried desperately to avoid a potentially deadly accident. This failure wasn’t just mechanical—it was terrifying. And it could have cost me my life. What happened next only made things worse. GM Roadside Assistance left me stranded on the side of the road for nearly 4 hours. Multiple tow trucks were sent, but none had the right equipment because the vehicle could not be put into neutral due to the engine failure. I was left vulnerable, frustrated, and utterly unsupported while GM fumbled through their response.

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY ON 2/21/25. MY 2023 YUKON (WITH GM ENGINE L87 IN IT) WARNING LIGHT CAME ON CALLING THAT THE TRUCK SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, PRESS START. PULLED OVER TO BREAK DOWN LANE, RESTARTED AND WENT ON OUR WAY. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF ANY TYPE OF ISSUE AND STATED TO BRING BY IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. 8 DAYS LATER THE 2023 YUKON WITH GM ENGINE L87 SIEZED ON 3/1/25 WITH ~23,000 ON IT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. VECHIE WAS TOWED TO GMC DEALERSHIP WHERE THE SUV WAS PURCHASED AND HAS BEEN SITTING EVER SINCE WHILE WE WAIT FOR A NEW ENGINE COME IN. DEALER HAS BEEN HELPFUL, BUT I HAVE READ THAT THERE IS A BIGGER ISSUE WTH THE L87 ENGINE.

This vehicle had a complete engine failure. We lost power and could not start it. We were stranded on a busy highway. This all happened going 65 mph. The dealer told us that we would need a complete engine replacement. We had about 16,500 miles on it. I personally know two other people that this has happened too.

Vehicle started making noise and idling rough 1-2days after receiving it back from oil change. It was absolutely fine and out of nowhere this happens. I’m great with cars and this is my 5th GMC Yukon and I bought this one at 0 mileage so I am very familiar with this car. There is absolutely no explainable reason my car is doing this I had it inspected and the dealer told me this has been happening lately to a lot of the gmc Yukons and I would need major engine repair for a brand new car!!! Over 20k in repairs and parts. I have 6 children and we have had to abandon the vehicle on Christmas Day to drive our old 2019 GMC Yukon which I think is starting to sound a lot like the 2023 under the hood! It’s roughly idling to. I’m afraid we might be taking the bus if I don’t pay 20k. I looked to see if there were recalls but found none. there is no way engine failure should just pop up after we spent tons of money keeping these cars in perfect shape and only being serviced at the dealership. This should be investigated and repair records pulled to find people who are not aware
