2023 GMC YUKON- Vestavia Hills, AL
On [XXX], at approximately [XXX]., I was driving down a highway and my vehicle engine just stopped. The dash went blank, I lost power and steering and there was no warning. I had enough momentum to partially stop on the shoulder of the highway but part of the vehicle was still in the flow of traffic. It was a dangerous situation for sure, especially since I had my [XXX] son in the car with me. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership where I purchased it, they said it was a connecting rod failure and I would need a new engine. This was on [XXX] and I still do not have my vehicle, they said the engine was on backorder. I have been in regular contact with GMC customer service and they have been largely unhelpful and unwilling to explore any other option that me just waiting for an engine to come it. I am now in my 9th week without my vehicle. The way they have treated me is unacceptable and they have not even acknowledged the danger that this defect put me and my son. While driving down a two-lane highway, the vehicle unexpectedly lost power and shifted into neutral. We coasted to a stop and pulled into a driveway, at which point the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the local GM dealership, where we were informed that the engine required replacement.

On Jan. 19, 2025, while driving home, I started hearing a loud knocking noise from my engine. Lucky I was still on residential streets so I was able to safely pull over to a parking lot. I was planning to drive the 40 miles home on the freeway when my wife said it might not be safe. That was when I decided to drive to my sister's house. Only when I pulled into the drive way the check engine light finally came on. The next day, I had the vehicle towed to the dealership and they diagnosed that I needed a new engine. They did not go into specifics as to why I will need a whole new engine but they did tell me that this was common and that they had other vehicles waiting for an engine also. My vehicle has been sitting there since.

I was driving down the highway at 75 miles per hour and my engine shifted from drive to Neutral on its own, luckily I was able to get off to the side of the road as it would not shift back into drive. I got off the highway and was able to put it in park but it would not shift into any other gear. I turned the vehicle off and it would not power back on. It was completely dead. I had to have it towed and drug up onto truck and back off the truck as it was not shift into Neutral. It has now been at the GM dealership for 16 days. The engine had seized they said and needs a new one. this is a 2023 and only has slightly over 20K miles on it. They have told me there is a national shortage on engines and I am in line to get one but there is no telling on how long that will be. I am out of a car for 2 weeks and who knows how much longer. GM has given me a rental car but a very small SUV that does not fit my family. I have no idea how long it will be nor do they until I get a new engine in my vehicle. I was fortunate I was able to get to the side of the highway and stop safely.

Traveling at 65 MPH on highway when electronic dash went completely blank, audio on car stopped as did the engine! Steering of vehicle remained in tact so I was fortunate to be able to "coast" to the side of the highway. GMC Dealer has confirmed a total engine failure and stated they will need to replace the entire engine. There were no prior warnings, symptoms or problems with my vehicle prior to this incident.

While driving, vehicle threw an error “ reduced acceleration, drive with care”. I had my children in the car when the car abruptly reduced speed and car jerked. It was very scary while driving. It was stuck in 5th gear. I was taken to dealership. Code showed it needs a Transmission Valve Body replacement. Part # 24065353. Dealership has stated part is “on backorder with no ETA of the part”. My car has been sitting on the lot for 17 days waiting to be fixed.

2023 Yukon XL AT4 with 6.2L engine. [XXX] started to hear rattling noise coming from the engine area. I took the vehicle to a GMC dealer in Houston TX. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a defective transmission plate? Said they would have to order the part. Part arrived and while at the dealer they decided to inspect the oil pan. In the oil pan they found metal shavings. It was reported to me yesterday [XXX] that the engine would need to be replaced. This vehicle has roughly 17,000 miles and it’s been just over 1 1/2 years since purchased brand new by me. No confirmation of when a new motor will be available for replacement. Was told it could be months. Was also told that the vehicle is unsafe to drive since the engine could lock up at any time based on their findings.
