2018 HONDA ACCORD Complaints

In September 2025, all dashboard lights came on while driving down the road. I immediately pulled over and turned the car off. When turning the car back on, all lights remained on and I drove to the nearest repair shop, where at this time it was beginning to run hot. I was told at this point that the head gasket had blown and this would need to be replaced. I replaced the head gasket for $4100.00. After that, in October 2025, I had to replace the fuel injectors and coil packs. In February 2026, driving down the road, the car was not running hot but all lights came on the dash again and it went into limp mode. The car had to be towed to a repair shop where it was stated that coil packs needed to be changed again. In August 2026, the turbo had to be replaced, resulting in an additional $2500.00

I am reporting a suspected head gasket/engine defect involving my 2018 Honda Accord Sport. My vehicle experienced multiple engine-related problems before ultimately requiring head gasket replacement and cylinder head repair. On July 27, 2024, at approximately 161,480 miles, the turbocharger was replaced. In September 2025, at 207,539 miles, my vehicle was serviced at Joe Morgan Honda, an authorized Honda dealership. During that visit, the Honda technician documented that the cooling system fluid level was low and that no external leaks were found. The technician documented that they suspected the head gasket was causing internal coolant loss over time. I was instructed to monitor the vehicle and was provided an estimate of approximately $4,400 plus tax for head gasket replacement. I specifically asked the Honda service advisor whether the head gasket could be repaired at that time or whether anything could be done to prevent the suspected problem from progressing. I was told there was nothing that could be done at that point other than monitor the vehicle. Within weeks, multiple warning lights illuminated on my dashboard and the vehicle began experiencing significant drivability problems, including hesitation, misfiring, and loss of acceleration. The loss of acceleration was particularly concerning because the vehicle did not respond or accelerate normally while being driven. I took the vehicle to Integrity Automotive on September 25, 2025, at 208,583 miles. The engine was checked, and the ignition coils and spark plugs were replaced. Despite those repairs, the vehicle ultimately required major engine repairs on November 8, 2025, at 210,230 miles. The cylinder head gasket was replaced and the cylinder head was serviced/repaired. The fuel injectors, spark plugs, and serpentine belt were also replaced, and the cooling system and drivability/performance were checked. The failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

This sudden malfunction directly caused a rear-end collision on the interstate. Documentation: A formal crash report was filed with the Georgia State Patrol. Ongoing Risk: The false automatic braking warnings continue to trigger randomly, creating an extreme safety hazard for myself and surrounding traffic. Issue 2: Premature Turbocharger Failure & Cracked Head Gasket Diagnostic Timeline: Immediately upon picking up the car from a body shop repair, every warning light on the dashboard illuminated erratically. After Ed Voyles Honda in Marietta claimed nothing was wrong, the body shop replaced a potentially loose battery cable. The issue persisted, and Shottenkirk Honda in Cartersville ultimately diagnosed a total turbocharger failure in March 2026. Out-of-Pocket Cost: Honda denied any goodwill coverage despite the widespread, documented failure of these 1.5L engines across 2018–2023 models. I paid $1,700 out of pocket to replace the turbocharger. Escalating Failures: Shortly after the turbo replacement, the head gasket cover cracked—another notorious, widely recognized defect inherent to this specific engine setup. At only seven years old, this vehicle has proven to be unreliable, dangerous, and financially burdensome. The known defects in the 1.5L powertrain warrant a widespread recall. Given my long-standing loyalty and the severe nature of these defects, I request a full reimbursement of the $1,700 turbocharger repair costs and an immediate investigation into the phantom braking issue. Turbo has gone out and it's several thousand dollars to get fixed and will eventually affect the overall lifespan and performance of the engine if not repaired in a timely enough fashion. There is no recall for this specific issues even though thousands of Honda Accord owners are dealing with the same failure/repair and there are no offers of goodwill assistance from the dealership or manufacturer. The dealership assured that engine failure is inevitable without a turbo replacement and they can't determine the extent of the damage that's already been done to the engine since the turbo showed signs of failure.

i have a 2018 honda accord. it used to have only wired carplay. i paid a honda dealer for the official advertised wireless carplay upgrade. over a year later suddenly the head unit doesn't work. it just shows "please insert usb drive containing valid software license file, and press ok button." many people online are reporting this issue. the honda dealer that did my original install refuses to fix this issue free of charge, and they are unable to assure me that they are aware of the issue and have a confirmed fix. i refuse to pay them to do a diagnostic just for them to tell me they can't fix it, or to give me a temporary fix that will break again later
