2018 HONDA ACCORD Complaints

In 2023, the car had a rough start during cold weather. Honda confirmed there was a service bulletin and told me my fuel injectors were likely failing. It’s a known issue. For 2 winters, I used Sea Foam to manage the problem. This winter, the dash completely lit up. I returned to Honda for an update to new version of the same service bulletin. They did the fix but it did not solve the problem. Tonight my car went into limp home mode and had to be towed to the mechanic for the fuel injector repair. We were on NC Interstate 540 when the car rapidly lost acceleration and luckily made it to a gas station for safe pick up. Me, my passenger and other drivers were all endangered the 3 times I had to pull over to stop and restart the car.

Hi, to whom it may concern my dashboard lights have been on for months now and I’ve taken it to the dealership I purchased my car from and it comes back that it’s the turbo that needs replacing. The pricing of that is ridiculous and I’m currently not the ONLY one with this issue ! It’s an ALL AROUND THE WORLD thing! I’m not sure about anybody else but I don’t have that type of money plus while paying other important bills ! There should be a recall against the turbo replacement as well! And just what if I was to get the turbo replacement and then the lights come back on, because I’ve seen multiple people saying the replacement didn’t help with the lights and still have gotten other things done and the lights only off for a couple days ! Indeed of answers because this is ridiculous!

The car will have all lights on dashboard showing, car has been taken multiple times to dealership and nothing seems to be wrong but this cause all safety features to malfunction. I have talked with other Honda owners, on forums and acquaintances and they have similar issues.

The head gasket of my 2018 Honda Accord, 1.5L turbo engine blew, allowing coolant to leak and pool into cylinder 3 of the engine. The engine was inspected by a Honda dealership and confirmed the defect/failure. I don’t have the failed gasket, but do have images of the coolant running into the cylinder from the inspection. My family’s safety was put at risk as due to this failure the engine misfired and would no longer accelerate on two different instances. Once in a local 55 mph road where the car would get above 30 mph. The second was when my wife was driving in a 70 mph turnpike when the misfire happened. There were no warning lamps or indicators of the failure. The symptoms were duffle, which included worsening engine performance, gas mileage, rough idling, and jerking while driving due to poor combustion in the bad cylinder. They first appeared around 87,000 - 88,000 miles (within this last year - 2025).

Vehicle: 2018 Honda Accord Sport 1.5T, VIN [XXX] , 108,584 m, registered Indiana. Vehicle suffered from well-known 1.5L turbo oil dilution defect (TSB 19-091) since 5/24/21, 35k m, towed Honda dealership check engine light on, loss acceleration. Dealership diagnosed misfires cylinders 2 &3 caused by faulty fuel injectors from gasoline contaminating engine oil, 4 injectors,related parts $1,495.53. Defect persisted, ongoing issues: VTEC solenoid failure, spool valve replacement, turbo full assembly replacement, multiple spark plug replacements over four+ years, due to same oil dilution causing fouling/misfires. $3,855+ spent related repairs, due to defect. 6/14/25 & 6/21 car decelerated, 9 warning lights illuminated. Examined, diagnostics clear. 10/29/25 engine light, loss of acceleration, almost resulted in highway crash. Towed Victory Honda Highland, IN 11/10, sat 40+ days. No communication. Eventually diagnosed blown head gasket, leaking injectors. No loaner provided despite request. Corporate requested teardown 11/25 wasn’t done. Manager demanded deposit before teardown. American Honda denied goodwill, refused escalation 3xs, assigned same unresponsive manager, but out till New Year. Broke 48-hour callback promise 12/17. Upon request, Honda towed Team Honda Merrillville, IN no repairs done at Victory. Since transported Team Honda nothing repaired, waiting teardown confirmation, leaving my family without transportation 2+ months. Defect documented TSB 19-091, ongoing class-action suit 1:22-cv-02662, N.D. Illinois 1,200+ NHTSA complaints identical failures. ‘18 Honda Accord Sp 1,200 + documented similar complaints, yet Victory Honda, Team Honda, & American Honda not addressed issue. Lack of communication, refusal to address known safety issue. Should investigation/mandatory recall/coverage. Safety Risk: Sudden loss of power on highway = crash hazard. Honda needs to recall all the newer vehicles starting with 2018 to 2024. All lights on the dashboard is on and while I’m on highway, the car would apply the brake itself and when I released my foot from the pedal, the car run smoothly again. I took the car to Honda dealership last year and I was charged over 1500 dollars, still the car is having the same issue. This is frustrating. Today, the car is showing the camera like I was trying to back up, even though the car was on drive mode. Unbelievable.

My fiance has a 2018 Honda Accord Sport Touring, this past Sunday he was giving me a ride and about 5 min of driving , after stopping for a red light , the light turned green he pushed the pedal and the car starting moving then all of a sudden warning lights were flashing , the engine light , remote not in car, oil light, air bag , low tire, etc. there was alot at the same time when the warning lights came on as he pushed the gas pedal the car stopped accelerating, and he said he had no power in the pedal ,there was heavy traffic, a car could of rear ended us but he was able to put his hazards on and coast around the corner before the car stopped. He shut the car off and back on and it drove like normal again. I was scared of course and just wanted to go home. When we got home he remembered he still had his fathers Obd scanner tool so he plugged it in the car and it showed no error codes. So that was really strange. He went to the store down the street the next day, but other then that he drives his work van and I have my own car. I was reading newsbreak and seen that honda recalled only hybrid and newer years and thought thats odd I should let someone know this happen to his 2018 accord , because Im sure it has to happen to others. We didnt take it in or call the police , but this clearly could of caused a crash had he not remained calm and put his flashers, everything happened so fast. Im sure he would let you inspect it, he works during the morning. I have no clue why it did that and neither does he. Thank you for your time.

The vehicle is misfiring due to faulty fuel injectors. Causing every light on the dash to come on.

I had to have the injectors replaced in April 2025. In November I was told a had a busted head gasket $5800.00 to fix. Many Honda owners have had this problem. Honda customer services refuses to help.

While driving on the NJ Garden State Parkway on an incline, the car went into LIMP HOME MODE in the middle of heavy traffic causing the speed to get dangeriousily very slow. I had to make my way across many lanes to get the edge of the road. After shutting off car I was able to restart and drive to work. My father came to my work and looked at car and added Honda antifreeze becuase it had seeped into combustion chambers Then drove the our Honda dealer. Just before he got to dealer driveway the car missed and hesitated but was able to make it to dealer. Dealer determined it was the common problem with the 1.5T engines, the head gasket failed. Check engine light never went on or any overheating (I was lucky) .While engine was apart, other work was agreed to as being cost-effective. The car prevousily had Honda car with 0 deductable until 100,000 miles. Car has always been serviced by dealer with more service than Honda requires and I have all service records from purchase to prove it. Last service before incident was 10/14/2025 . What makes this worse is that my son (2018 Civic) and my brother (2020 Accord) also have Honda cars that are destined for the same failure based on what is known about the defective 1.5T engines.
