2013 HONDA ACCORD Complaints

When driving my vehicle, the steering wheel gets sticky and is hard to turn and if I move the wheel slightly to the right the wheel automatically turns all the way right. I have almost gotten into an accident a couple times due to this issue. The steering wheel does not turn back to center. I see that this is a common issue for my vehicle make and model. This is a severe issue that can cause bodily harm if not replaced quickly.

2013 Honda Accord experiencing a VSA modulator failure. The VSA modulator controls the Anti-lock Braking System, which is now not working on my vehicle. The local Honda Dealers have told me this is a common failure (I checked with two different Dealers). The repair cost for parts and labor is approximately $2500, with no guarantee it will not fail again. From research I found that the VSA failures are covered in later year Hondas, but not my year. I also found that other countries have forced Honda to cover these failures. I have filed a case with Honda, but the case was closed with Honda saying they would not do anything to reduce the cost of the replacement VSA modulator, which is being quoted as $2344 (for the part alone). A common safety part, such as the VSA modulator, should be replaced at little or no cost to the Customer.

While driving on [XXX] in Selden, NY on [XXX] @ the speed of approximately 45-50 mph my 2013 Honda Accord Sport (sedan) abruptly, unexpectedly and violently lurched to the left on it's own while I was holding the wheel with my fingers. Thank God I was already in the left lane because my vehicle went off the left shoulder and began to go onto the grass in the median but I was able to recover before completely going of the road. Had I been in the right lane I would have ran into a vehicle in the left lane because traffic was heavy at the time. Up until this point, my car drove straight and true without the need for alignment, air pressure adjustments, brakes or balancing. I know this because I have a little over 95,000 miles on the car and I keep my Honda pristine. However, to rule out the obvious possibilities I had an alignment done and all 4 tires checked for balancing and tire pressure issues. My brakes are in excellent condition and the vehicle did not make any unexpected sounds either before or after the incident and no dash board lights came on before or after the incident. I went to my mechanic and he researched the problem and I was told that the EPS was malfunctioning so he reset the computer and the problem seemed to be rectified. Unfortunately, the problem occurred again, on [XXX] except this time the car lurched to the right with the same intensity. I went back to my mechanic on Friday, June 6, 2025 and after diagnosis I was told that the same problem is occurring with the EPS but this time it cannot be fixed and the cost of repair is approximately $3200.00. I did some research on line and found a ton of information on complaints about faulty EPS systems in multiple year Honda's and an investigation that is ongoing involving the NHTSB about this defect. I went to Baron Honda, in Patchogue, NY and one of their service managers, Steve, says he hasn't heard anything about any of this. I call [XXX]. The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

While driving at about 20 - 30 mph making turns either right or left my steering locks up causing me to almost hit a pedestrian. I was able to stop the car on n time. I shut the car off and restarted raving the engine to build up pressure. It mostly happens in morning or when the car sits a very long period

While driving, the steering wheel jerks to the left. There is a constant pressure of the wheel turning left. This puts me and others in danger. There have been other experiences from other people on different forums that have experienced this. Warning lamp did come on for electric steering but turned off a few days later.

VSA ABS FCW EPS warning lights, according to Honda dealership it needs a VSA ABS module, these are thousands of dollars and there’s thousands and thousands of pissed off customers. This should be warranted. It looks like honda of Europe did warranty it. I’m not sure what’s going on in honda North America. It can cause the brake pedal to go soft, and is definitely a safety hazard

Very common problem it appears as there are several forum post from other accord owners 2013 and above that have all reported dash lights up with traction control, tire pressure, power steering, ABS and some instances Brake will illuminate on the dash board, and some have reported a combination of these lights or all of them. The culprit is a broken solder on the ABS module from my understanding and its something Honda is aware of but have not recalled. The part itself costs $1500, just for the part and does not include labor. This is a common issue that should be taken care of by honda as its a huge safety issue with the ABS, Traction control, power steering, tire pressure monitoring and brake not working when needed in an emergency situation. This is a huge safety risk that needs to be addressed. It also affects the value of the vehicle if not repaired.

The high pressure fuel pump is failing. Had a diagnostic ran with the help of Autozone technicians. Advised to replace it. Looked up recalls for my vehicle and found the same issue. I was driving the vehicle home from work when the vehicle was struggling to move. It is available for inspection. No lights on prior to the fuel pump failure. These lights came on after the incident: check engine light, steering wheel with the exclamation mark, traction control, and the tire pressure light blinks then remains on.

Steering is hard to turn to the right and easy to the left. I suspect bad Electronic Steering Rack and Pinion. Not safe to drive. No warning lights as of yet, but mechanically has symptoms.
