2018 HONDA CR-V Complaints

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH on local streets, the accelerator pedal was slightly released, however, the vehicle instantly stopped. In December 2021, my kids and I were in the car waiting outside the restaurant for our food. The car was on and in less than 10 minutes all the warning lights flashed on the dashboard. I turned the engine off and on but all the warning lights were still flashing. Called the dealership and was advised to have it towed. They couldn’t find any problem. On February 16, four days after our car was serviced, on the way to work the vehicle was slowing down and running rough. I turned it off and on, same thing, foot on accelerator but it only slowed me down. Called the dealership and was advised to have it towed. They couldn’t find any problem. On the afternoon of February 21, every warning lights came flashing on the dashboard again. Every time you turn it on, the warning lights are still there. I’m on my way to have it checked to the dealership again.

The radio info system keeps turning off and on when driving. Also the brightness switch keeps doing the same thing. It is hard to drive when this hapens. Have to pull over and turn off the car and reboot the system. Service at dealship said Honda knows about this but cannot come up with a fix. At times it is unsafe to drive when this happens.

Traveling on I-20 My wife reported the car just quit working with no warning between Atlanta and Birmingham about 90 miles from home. She was able to get to the side of the interstate and called me. She said all the lights on the display were showing as failed systems. Internet search lead me to believe it was the battery. On arrival i installed new battery but symptoms remained car would not start and just shuddered when attempting to start. I called the dealership we purchased from to talk to a tech. I was asked if she was low on gas below 1/2 tank. Yes the gauge shows 1/4 tank remains. I was told to get gas and it should be fine, some of the CRV's run out of gas but read that gas remains. I did get gas and car cranked we drove home. At 63 we don't need this kind of dangerous situation to happen. Think how easily this could have gone from bad to worse. She did call the state patrol and asked for the roadside assistance truck to come. This would at least have some flashing lights. They never made it. The dealership told me on the phone that this was not a recall or covered but they knew about it occurring. They would be glad to fix it at my expense. Money for maintenance is one thing but I might as well let my wife drive a junker if this is what I get when I buy a Honda. This occurred 02/16/22 so I have not been to the dealer for their evaluation, just to the gas station.

the steering wheel sticks or has some resistance when returning to straight position from a right turn position. It has been doing this for several months. I have to give it a pull to center which is enough to swerve into the left lane of traffic. This happens at any speed but at high speed this is dangerous! I went to the dealer Coggin Honda in Ft Pierce, FL to have the service dept. confirm this symptom. A service writer told me that the Rack and Pinion Steering unit is malfunctioning and should be replaced. This car has 11,000 miles on it and the steering unit CAN'T be worn out so it must be defective and will be very unsafe as it seems that it is getting worse.

The contact stated that a week later while starting the vehicle, she experienced the same failure. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer, where she was informed that the engine was overfilled by one quart of oil. The contact was informed that the extra oil needed to be drained. The repairs were completed. The contact stated on 2/9/2022, she started to smell fuel fumes inside the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle back to the local dealer and was informed there was no leak and no failure found with the vehicle. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

Engine oil diluted. 2/8/2022 Engine oil was Diluted by 55mm. This happened within 400 miles of the last oil change. That's a lot of gasoline in the oil and oil viscosity is significantly decreased. All updates/recalls have been completed on the vehicle. The updates that are specific to this issue have been completed. Talking to Honda dealership, this is extremely unnormal and results in premature engine wear.

I have a 2018 Honda CR-V purchased 12/4/2017. During the fall/winter of 2018, the warning lights and bells came on for apparently no reason and the vehicle would barely move down the road. Turning off the vehicle and restarting it fixed the issue with the vehicle moving however the lights remained on. I took the vehicle in to be checked by the dealer at least twice, but they were unable to find any problem. At this time the only possible solution that I found from searching the problem on google was a possible loose battery connection or low voltage in batter. They reset the computer and it has continued to occur multiple times since then. Once again on Friday, February 4, 2022, I took the vehicle in for a service with the warning lights all on again. They fixed some extended warranty issues which they thought fixed the problem. However, within less than 5 minutes after starting the vehicle all the lights were on again. At this time, I again did a google search for this issue and now I am finding that 4 years later with hundreds of people continuing to have the same problem repeatedly the fix that seems to be the actual solution is to replace the fuel injectors. Yet, Honda is refusing to recognize this as their problem and forcing their customers to foot the bill for this repair that has obviously been an issue since the vehicle was purchased. When all the warning lights are on none of the vehicle safety features work and all the flashing lights and dinging bells are a major driver distraction. Nevermind when start your car and attempt to pull onto the road and the vehicle will not run over 5 miles an hour with the gas pedal to the floor. I had to pull over on the side of the road which was not wide enough for me to get out of the road and turn off my ignition and restart my car. Thankfully it would accelerate at a normal speed afterwards and I was able to get home safely.

10 warning messages appear on the dashboard simultaneously. This has happened about 10 times now and has been viewed by an independent repair shop. The failures involve the breaking system, TPMS, power steering, vehicle stability assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation and road departure. All of the 10 failures occurred when the temperature was below 40 degrees. They all were cleared after warming up in my garage overnight. When the warning messages appear, none of the systems are operational causing major safety concerns. I have a log of each occurrence and a video of the dashboard when the vehicle is started with the failures. Also, I am writing to alert you of this because there are many others who have experienced the same problems as I found after doing some on-line research. I have experienced the effects of a parasitic drain on the vehicle's battery which caused a premature failure. It's a known issue as the vehicle stability assist unit runs when the vehicle is off, which caused the premature failure.
