2018 HONDA CR-V Complaints

In April 2025 my CRV had issues with acceleration. The speed reduced all of a sudden and car couldn't go more than 5 mph, so I took it to the repiar shop. The mechanic told me that cylinder #2 misfired. He replaced the spark plugs and the ignition coil. A few days later after driving for a few miles "Stop driving when safe, engine temperature too Hot" sign came up. I stopped driving immidiately and got the car towed to the repair shop. After testing the car the mechanic told me that the head gasket leaked and the coolant is mixing with the lubricant. He told me that there is damage to the engine so the engine need to be replaced. I was driving with kids in the car and I believe it compromised the safety of my family when the speed came down all of a sudden on the road and the car stopped accelerating.

A fuel pump installed in my car on April 25 2025 due to the recall. The new fuel pump has rattled loose.

The steering gearbox mechanism is faulty. It causes the steering to be jerky and unstable, having to constantly adjust steering. We took it to the Honda Dealership in Ft. Walton Beach, FL for evaluation. They indicate "the steering gearbox is faulty and would need a new rack to fix issue". Cost to repair is approximately $4600. An independent mechanic locally also confirmed the same issue and provided a Honda Service Bulletin 18-103 showing this was a recall on 2017-2018 CRVs. Cost for them to repair (due to cost of parts) is nearly $7,000. Honda says our VIN is not covered under the recall. The car has only 55,000 miles on it and the steering gearbox is failing. At the direction of the local dealership service manager, we created a case with Honda corporate but they have denied the request to repair under prior recall. Honda directed us to the NCDS to file a request for review. NCDS denies the review since the CRV is out of warranty. Honda knows this was an issue on the 2017-2018 CRV and it is a safety issue and they refuse to repair it. I don't feel safe driving the car as I don't know when the steering gearbox will ultimately fail.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a stop sign, the vehicle failed to exceed 30 MPH, and the emissions warning light illuminated. The dealer was contacted and diagnosed that the turbo was consuming oil. The dealer confirmed there was no available appointment until June 2025 to repair the vehicle under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The dealer also informed the contact that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V215000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Vehicle threw codes P0172 and P219e. Vehicle was sluggish and idled rough. All lights on the dash flashed and showed that most safety systems were disabled. Vehicle was taken to Honda service center and confirmed by the dealer. Dealer replaced the fuel injectors. Vehicle was less than a year out of warranty for this specific issue. This seems to be a common issue with this model of vehicle as the service center had the same model with the same issue that day.

I have noticed within the last 6 months that the steering seems to stick. When I am turning the wheel it hesitates and I'm not comfortable and feel safe. It's getting worse and more noticeable. I've been reading some more information from other drivers of my 2018 Honda CRV and see that there are different recommendations and it's costing $4,000 and up to fix. I am not able to do that repair and feel like this should be included in the recall of the previous 2018 Honda crvs. There's clearly something wrong with the steering.

Fuel Pump recall completed at McGrath Honda, St. Charles IL., on Monday 2/3/2025. Never had any issues with car since purchase in 2019. Since Fuel Pump recall I have had an additional 3 visits. Car has a rumble and shaking when starting. Revisit on 4/1 shop found no problems all inspections checkout out. Once again car still rubles and shakes when starting. On [XXX] my 17 year old was driving, all emergency lights came on, gas pedal stopped working, (This is a vital safety concern for a gas pedal to stop working) and car overheated. Car required another shopping and upon inspection again no issues identified. On [XXX] again all warning lights activated, car rumbles/ shakes upon starting. Car returned to shop where faulty oring on fuel pump was identified and changed. All warning lights cleared and car returned. On [XXX] Car rumbles when starting, all warning lights active and car speed is limited. Car will be shopped for 5th service in 3.5 months since Honda Fuel Pump recall. The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the vehicle went into LIMP Mode while attempting to accelerate. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated during the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road, and the contact waited for a while before continuing to drive. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

Steering the vehicle became more difficult as if the steering was sticking. I was concerned for my safety. Proctor Honda, Tallahassee, FL determined the Electronic Power Steering Rack needed to be replaced. Honda installed 53620-TLB-A23 :G/BOX ASSY, EPS on 4/18/25., R/O 16011581/2. Honda advised my 2018 Honda CRV was not subject to Service Bulletin 23-037 or any recall & charged me $4,365.66 for the replacment. This issue appears to be identical to the Issue the recalled vehicles had and was identified as "Sticky Steering". Honda kept the old electronic steering rack. My car began having this issue approximately February or March 2025. There were no warning lights. Steering became increasingly difficult. Please consider this as a complaint.

The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the steering gear box and rack and pinion were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 52,264.
