2018 HONDA CR-V Complaints

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The VIN was not available.

8/6/24 confirmed by Honda dealer, steering gearbox internal failure. Need to replace rack and pinion assembly. See attached.

While driving on a public roadway at about 20 mph I approached a large steel plate covering a trench, the brakes applied with maximum force and the dashboard BRAKE light came on. Luckily there were no vehicles close behind us. We could easily been hit from behind because of the severity of the stop. We had a similar incident on 05/042021 that we filed a complaint with the NHTSA #11416110. I spoke with Matt (service Rep) from Honda City and was told it was not covered by the warranty.

I was Driving down a small hill. The car alerted for a car near my vicinity. There was no car in front or adjacent to mine. However, the car suddenly came to a complete stop, without me engaging the brakes. It almost resulted in a serious collision with the car behind me.

The problem doesn't seem to appear until after I've been driving on the highway for an hour or so. When it does appear it manifests itself as a bind in the steering. For example, if I want to make a small adjustment - say to recenter the vehicle in the lane - the normal amount of pressure on the steering wheel does nothing. The wheel won't turn. If I apply more pressure then suddenly the steering wheel breaks free and turns a little more than I had intended. It sounds very similar, if not the same, as NHTSA Investigation: EA23003, but that one is for newer vehicles than mine.

Started car. Pulling out of garage going forward. Pushed the cruise control button on steering wheel instead of radio volume button by accident. Car suddenly began to rapidly accelerate. Took me a second or two hit brake to stop car. Pushing brake did stop car. If you activate the cruise control with the car running and in drive at any speed under 20 mph the car will accelerate to 20 mph.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or local dealer. The contact related the failure to the NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The local dealer had not been contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000. The VIN was not available.

The car would not turn off. It said that there was some sort of electronic key issue and after stopping the car and putting it in park the engine would not shut off. Hitting the stop button did nothing. With no option to basically render the car into a safe position I drove the car to the dealer. The dealer was surprised they looked at the car and basically diagnosed that the BCM had failed. It is surprising to me that the BCM and ignition control systems are designed to prevent turning off the engine in case of failure of one of the components. They charged me approximately $750 for replacing the BCM.

Without any warning, vehicle will brake with no traffic in sight, or whenever it decides the car needs braking. I'm afraid I am going to be rear ended at some point. This has happened several times since purchasing the vehicle.
