2024 HONDA ODYSSEY Complaints

The car will lose power while sitting at a red light. The dash lights up and you can't do anything. You have to turn it off and back on and hope no one hits you in the meantime. This has happened twice now. I bought it brand new, serviced regularly and has 16k miles.

My 2024 Honda Odyssey EX-L has a recurring Auto Idle Stop failure. About 1–2 times per week, when stopped at a light and Auto Idle Stop engages, the engine fails to restart properly when I release the brake. The engine sputters or shuts down, the battery warning light comes on, and the vehicle shifts itself into Park. I then have to hold the start button for several seconds to restart the engine. This creates a safety risk because the vehicle becomes disabled in active traffic when the light turns green. The vehicle was previously taken to a Honda dealer for this issue, and the battery was replaced, but the problem continues.

My car is experiencing the starting issue that is listed as auto start/stop feature. However, since I almost always have the AC on or start/stop disabled because the car will not start when hot after a few stops and was scared it would do it in traffic. So far I can get it started again but need to completely turn car off and try again, sometimes more than once. Had been going on for a year and the dealer has replaced battery then the next services said nothing wrong. Now the car is out of warranty and the starting issues getting worse and have finally found online that others are experiencing similar issues. I have forgotten to turn off start/stop a couple times and been stranded in traffic as well when car auto stopped at red light and did not restart causing me to be stuck until i could get it restarted.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, and while stopped at a red traffic light, the Automatic START/STOP system failed, causing the vehicle to unexpectedly shut off. The vehicle was restarted and drove normally. On another occasion, while stopped in a drive-thru, the vehicle shut off unexpectedly. The emissions system, adaptive cruise control, and tire monitoring system warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with battery failure. The battery was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

The idle stop on the van will stall the vehicle. This has happened 3 separate times where the vehicle stops, then stalls when the engine tries to turn back on. This can be very dangerous, especially when trying to turn from an intersection and the vehicle stalls.

SEVERAL TIMES, I HAVE BEEN DRIVING, AND THE AUTO STOP SHUTS THE ENGINE DOWN, THEN IT WILL NOT RESTART. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON A VERY BUSY STATE ROUTE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, WHILE I HAVE MY YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING AND A MOJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR US.

This is a known symptom of a failure in the MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) bus network, specifically related to defective FAKRA connectors and coaxial cabling. Safety Risk: "When the MOST bus network loses connection for more than 20 seconds, the infotainment screen freezes or goes black, causing a total failure of the rearview (backup) camera image. This failure occurs unpredictably while the vehicle is in reverse, significantly increasing the risk of a back-over accident or collision. Additionally, the loud, sudden popping noises are a severe driver distraction." Dealer/Manufacturer Response: "The Honda dealership confirmed the issue is consistent with the known MOST bus failure (TSB 23-047). However, because the vehicle has 49,000 miles, both the dealership and Honda Corporate (Case # [Insert your number if you have one]) have denied a goodwill repair, despite this being a documented safety defect that has been the subject of prior federal recalls

The vehicle was stopped at a red light. This vehicle is equipped with an auto-start/stop system to save fuel. Once the red light turned green the engine refused to restart. This was the second instance. The vehicle took over 30 seconds before it would restart. None of the push-to-start buttons worked, the car would not recognize that the brake was pressed, and it had also shifted itself into park. Very dangerous while traffic was moving all around us.
