2015 HONDA ODYSSEY Complaints

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that all the vehicle doors would fail to lock or unlock. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the door lock actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was contacted and provided a repair fee discount. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 115, 862.

Several times in recent years my car will start sputtering and misfire, losing significant power. Last time I was getting onto the freeway and it was quite dangerous as I was unable to accelerate sufficiently. My engine light also went on. The Honda dealership diagnosed the problem as a problem with the pistons, which needed replacing at a cost of some $4,000. The dealership shared that they were aware of this problem and that Honda had a newly designed piston to replace it. This seems to be the same problem covered by a RECALL for Honda Odyssey's 2011-2013 - but it does not cover my 2015 model. I am attaching info on the recall (Soto et al v. Amer. Both front coil springs broke resulting in a jagged piece of metal coming loose from the vehicle. The first spring broke and was replaced in 2020 and just replaced the other side in 2022. The vehicle currently only has about 95,000 miles. Wanted to report this because I have never had a vehicle break on coil spring, much less two in such a short time period.

This is a new car that has 78,000 miles on it, which I have owned for just about two years. Approximately one year ago, the cable that controls the automatic door open and close on the rear doors of the vehicle broke, on the passenger's side. After a costly repair, it worked again. Today, the same exact issue occurred, on the driver's side rear door, and when I tried to manually close the door, it came off of the track and fell off. The reason I was trying to close the door was because the REAR DOOR indicator light was on, and so was the door open indicator, and I didn't want the battery to die while we tried to address the cable. I cannot imagine what would have happened if this occurred while I was driving, if the cable may have hit another car or the road and caused a spark, or if the door just fell off of the tracks while driving. Having this happen twice in two years and a quick google search has shown me that this is not an uncommon issue (so common that the replacement cables are sold on Amazon). As I had my toddler in the car, I believed that it was important to report to the NHTSA. The car is currently at the mechanic but can be made available for a quick inspection.

7 year old in 2nd row passanger side seatbelt would not release and would only get tighter and tighter. Seatbelt got tighter and tighter around his belly causing pain and crushing his stomach. I had to cut the seatbelt to get him out. Tried pressing every button and opening and closing car door, locking and unlocking and restarting car, but nothing worked. The more we tried to pull on the seatbelt, the tighter it got. The seatbelt would not release or give any slack to get him out. I am taking car into the dealership for a dianostic this coming Friday.

The rear passenger sliding door fell off the hinges and onto the ground. My 6 year old son was in his car seat next to the door and was nearly hit in the head when the door fell off.

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The mechanic informed the contact of spark plugs and oil contamination causing engine damage. The contact stated that a temporary repair was performed however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,652.

Piston rings in cylinders 1-3 failed and allow oil to foul spark plugs and causes misfires. Same issue they have on the older models and subject to class action suit. TSB has been released, but repair charge for this continued design flaw estimated over $4000. 140,791 miles, services maintained. A search of the Honda blogs show this to be a continuing issue for many owners.

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, she heard a loud explosion. The contact pulled over and noticed that the sunroof glass had exploded. There was no impact on the sunroof that could have caused it to shatter. The dealer was made aware of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

Vehicle is an Odyssey and is painted White and has peeling paint in front of moon roof and on the rear lift gate in two spots. Honda Co first agreed to pay for half of the repair paint job and on reconsideration said they refuse to pay for anything. The 2014 Odyssey is covered by a TSB which pays for a repair paint job. Our 2015 Odyssey is not covered and has the exact same paint defect.
