2022 HYUNDAI TUCSON- North Aurora, IL
This is the third time I had issues with my 2022 Hyundai Tucson losing power, being unable to accelerate, and/or completely losing power and stopping. I already created an NHSTA report/complaint when the first incident occurred 11 months ago (NHTSA ID Number: 11507213). Since then, the issue occurred twice (has 33,000 miles & always maintained). I am a professional female in [XXX] . The 2nd time was at night [XXX]; I was on my way to a program for work, car decelerated. I could navigate, with great distress and frustration to a side street where the car shut off completely. I contacted my husband, my supervisor (who delayed the program start for a few minutes, then began without me), Hyundai Blue Link and AAA. My supervisor sent someone to pick me up so I could be present at the program and make my presentation. A colleague returned me to my failed vehicle. I called AAA for an update on the tow, which I was told would not be for another several hours after midnight. My colleague drove me home (16.5 miles one way: my husband was even further away) as I would have again been alone in my vehicle at night (without heat). This third time (Jan 2024), I used the climate start for at least 12 minutes before driving. The car never gained acceleration above 19 mph, occurring immediately. I thought it was just a cold engine that would dissipate as I drove, but it didn't. Since I could not get the engine to accelerate, I could not get heat. It was as though the engine was draining all the functions of the vehicle. There were no cars in front of me, but several drivers behind me were very angry; amazingly, no accident occurred. Finally drove to dealer, called Uber, and was late to work again! Purchased my Tucson after engine issues with my Hyundai Sante Fe. Both purchased new with many extended warranties, assuming I'd have a safe and reliable vehicle. Car still at dealer (10 days). Nexen Rodian GTX 235-65-R17 DOT 1UA9Y BMER 2822; 1UA9Y AACL 2822; 1UA9Y BAKL 2822; 1UA9Y I purchased a new 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Blue on October 29, 2022. I bought it right off the truck, no miles on it. Since owning this, I've completed all set maintenance, as required and recommended, including tire rotations (maintenance records attached). I just went over 24K miles, and at my 24K mile service, the Hyundai dealer told me I needed new tires. Tires that don't even last 25K miles can be very dangerous and this quality is unacceptable. Tires are available to be inspected. Safety was put at risk by having tires that deteriorated so quickly that I could have an accident without realizing I was even at risk. I've never had a need to check my tread depth at 24k miles before. Especially coming into winter, this could've caused a serious accident. Tires were inspected by dealer and routine service inspection. No warning of this prior to being told at the dealer. I contacted Nexen about a warranty and was told they don't warrant those tires for a specific mileage. They special lower quality and mileage tires are sold to the car manufactures for new vehicles. If this is the case, then car dealers need to tell buyers this upfront or someone is going to have a serious accident not knowing their tires are shot when they've barely had the car a year. I believe Nexen's tire quality should be looked into and would like to submit a claim. It was on all four tires. I have supporting documentation for tire photos, maintenance records, and correspondence on my rejected claim that I can provide.

Case Synopsis: My ownership includes three Hyundai Hybrid vehicles: two 2020 Sonata Hybrids and one 2022 Tucson Hybrid. Each car has consistently manifested engineering defects, predominantly overheating, within a year of purchase. These persistent malfunctions have led to the vehicles being inoperable and beyond repair. As a result, we have endured financial setbacks from negative equity, costs of repairs, reduced value of the cars, and considerable inconvenience and safety hazards due to these ongoing overheating issues.

While driving uphill, the car lost power, beginning to spurt and stalling. Then the car was not able to accelerate while car kept spurting and stopping. It was a dangerous situation as this happened while we were driving, in the middle of the road, while going uphill. Thankfully it was at night and there were no cars behind us but if there was we would have clashed into it. Towed the vehicle to the dealership and was informed that the same year TUCSON came in the night before with similar problems. It appears that there is a pattern to this safety concern. Please take action before someone gets hurt. Car shutting off like this while driving poses safety concerns for drivers and all the people around it. Even with fix, I don't feel safe driving unless I see actions taken by Hyundai to solve this apparent issue with powertrain/engine.

My wife was with my Aunt and driving at 70mph on PGBT highway and instant the check engine light come on and the car started smelling of burnt equipment and stalled. The cabin was filled with white smoke and the windows jammed as well. The car was stalled in the middle of the highway with traffic zooming past and severing to save us. This car put my family is a life threatening situation and I want that to be recorded. We use this vehicle for our family trips and it haunts me to think what it can do to my wife and kids. I have started a formal complaint with Hyundai corporate and the complaint number is [XXX]. Also the car is with Hyundai Dealership at Address: 1301 N Central Expy, McKinney, TX 75070 (469) 525-4300) and I am yet to receive a diagnosis from them on what actually happened to the vehicle.
