2007 JEEP COMMANDER Complaints

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that there was a failure experienced with the ignition when attempting to start the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed to have an ignition-related failure. No further information was available. The failure mileage was 340,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that occasionally while driving 35 – 65 MPH, the vehicle would shake and hesitate. The vehicle also lost power steering and braking functionality and stalled with an audible tone. There were no warning lights illuminated. On another occasion the vehicle lost motive power and was struck by the vehicle in the rear. There was no physical damage to the vehicle and there was no injury sustained. The police were not notified and both vehicles were able to drive away from the scene. On another occasion the vehicle stalled and was towed to the residence; then towed to the local dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed however, the contact was unaware of the results or if the vehicle was repaired. The failure persisted. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

It randomly loses all power and it seems to shift erratically at this time as well. The check engine light dings once then disappears with out storing a any codes to diagnose. It only does it while I'm driving and if it happens while braking it loses the ability to brake. Very dangerous car, bought from dealership, told it had no problems due to not having any check engine lights and didn't do it on the test drive. AS IS WARRANTY.

2007 JEEP COMMANDER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO BROKEN AND RUSTED SEAT BELTS IN VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER AGREED TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELTS IN THE VEHICLE, BUT HAS NOT MADE CONTACT TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ROOF LEAKED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO FLOOD AND DAMAGING THE WINDOWS AND SPEAKERS.

Heat shield on the muffler system. I was towing a boat up north and started to smell a burning smell. At first I thought it was an electrical issue, but couldn't identify anything. So I drove another 3 to 4 miles and the back floor boards was smoking filling the car with smoke. I pulled over and the carpet was melting from the heat of the muffler/exhaust under the back seat. When it was inspected the heat shield was not over the area that almost caught fire. This is an issue that Jeep is more than aware of and it's an issue that only happens when these vehicles are towing. They run extremely hot towing and the heat shield is defective. Their are other's that have had this happen and there's no recall! My car is equipped with tow package too and it was turned on before it's even a question. I got a call about a year ago about a family friend was towing a pop up camper and their commander caught on fire and was a total loss! Thank God no one was injured. There needs to be an investigation with people who have commander's.

My car will act like it's out of gas/convulsions, dies suddenly, and acts like it's going to die when driving. Check engine light has come on sometimes. I have only had the vehicle around one year and have had it worked on 4 times for the issue. Still isn't fully resolved. It's was the obvious issue from the start so probably an issue before I bought the vehicle. I was referred to the dealership and they quoted me 600 just for the inspection. I just paid 3000 dollars to have it fixed. Still not fixes.

I have a jeep commander 2007 limited. According to your recall dates my VIN number doesn’t fall within those dates for my car to have the recall. Although my jeep is completely stallling out while driving 69 mph, I mean loss of all electrical inside my jeep. Power steering fails, engine shuts off, I am lucky enough that my brakes still work but who is to say that won’t happen again. So when looking my VIN number up seeing that this is ONE of the recalls, my VIN number ISNT part of the vehicles that was affected by the recall but I’m still encountering the SAME issue as the recall. I’ve taken it to my mechanic he cannot seem to find the problem. I need help I just bought this car! It’s our family car so it’s not only affecting me it’s my entire family. My husband, my two year older and my elderly parents.

INTERMITTENT STARTING ISSUE. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE, I HAVE 2 KIDS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND NEED TO GET TO IMPORTANT APPOINTMENTS. I START MY 2007 JEEP COMMANDER, I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING, WHEN I GO TO RESTART MY VEHICLE IT SOMETIMES DOESN'T WANT TO START. IT WILL CRANK OVER JUST REFUSES TO START. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE MECHANICS LOOK AT MY JEEP AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT REASONING TO THIS INTERMITTENT STARTING ISSUE. I HAVE PUT SO MUCH MONEY AND WORK INTO MY JEEP FOR IT TO KEEP DOING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE LAST MECHANIC I TOOK IT TOO SEEN CODE ERROR IN THE DISPLAY WINDOW ON DASH 'TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP' WHEN HE HAD TRIED TO START IT. IT DOES NOT DO THIS EVERY TIME THE WILL BE DAYS IT CONTINUOUSLY STARTS EVERY TIME THEN THERE ARE DAYS THAT IT'S INTERMITTENT, AND DAYS IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. THE MECHANIC STARTING LOOKIN ON JEEP FORUMS ABOUT THIS ISSUE THERE ARE TONS OF REPORTS OF THE SAME ISSUE BUT NO SOLUTION. MY MECHANIC SAID JEEP IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT THERE IS NO RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE. HE SAID HE BELIEVES IT IS A PROGRAMMING ISSUE THE CAR THINKS THE TRANSMISSION IS OVER TEMP SO IT SENDS SIGNAL TO THE ENGINE THAT IT'S TOO HOT AND THE ENGINE SENDS SIGNAL TO THE FUEL PUMP THAT THERE IS A TEMPERATURE ISSUE DO NOT TURN ON. WHEN IT CRANKS OVER IT ACTS AS IF IT ISN'T GETTING ANY FUEL AT ALL. I HAVE PURCHASED A NEW FUEL PUMP AND SOME OTHER PARTS THE ISSUE IS HAPPENING. I BOUGHT THE JEEP IN APRIL OF 2020 OFF OF ANOTHER OWNER, THE ISSUE DIDN'T START WITH ME UNTIL JANUARY OF 2021, THE PREVIOUS OWNER MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT THIS HAPPENING TO THEM WHEN I ASKED THEM. CAN SOMETHING PLEASE BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE SO MYSELF AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER 2007 JEEP COMMANDER OWNERS CAN GET BACK TO ENJOYING OUR VEHICLES???? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PREMIER CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM FIAT (13000 I-10 SERVICE RD, NEW ORLEANS, LA 70128) TO BE REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). UPON RETURN OF THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH COVER FAILED TO FIT THE IGNITION SWITCH. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE KEY NEEDED TO BE FORCED INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH TO START THE VEHICLE. RECENTLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS UNABLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE NEWER IGNITION SWITCH THAT WAS PLACED IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS FORCED TO REMOVE THE SWITCH COVER AND HOLD THE KEY UPON TURNING THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000.

WHILE DRIVING MY JEEP WOULD JUST SHUT OFF. I WOULD HAVE TO RESTART IT AND IT WOULD SHUT OFF AGAIN, SOMETIMES AT HIGH SPEEDS.
