2018 JEEP COMPASS Complaints

Hello- I was driving and I pulled up into a turn lane and when I went to take off after the light turned green my entire car just shut off, a bunch of code started flashing and then went away, I was stalled blocking traffic at a busy 4 way for over 30m while I waited for a tow truck, I tried to start my car just to see if there would be any luck and it started without any problem and I was able to move out of traffic but this was dangerous as there were no prior warning codes indicating something was wrong.

My jeep has died 3 different times in traffic. Once at full highway speeds, once in a intersections, etc. All with my minor child involved. They have "serviced" My vehicle 2 timed already and returned it with the same dangerous issue. They are saying they fulfilled the recall because they replaced a part, yet the issue persists. Last time I checked, fixed things work properly. Please force them to fix or replace my jeep before myself or my child dies.

I was recently involved in an accident driv'g 2018 Jeep Compass: no significant injury (so far) to a jogger, who was invisible due to a blind spot @driver-side A-pillar/mirror. I touched him w my car (5mph per police rept). It has taken me a month to understand why the accident occurred. I didn't see the jogger— he was NEVER w/in my scope of view. I was ticketed for failing to stop; I did stop but proceeded too soon...not writing to argue fault--- I accept that humans in crosswalks have right-of-way. A few years ago, I had a close call at an intersection w a truck coming (upgrade) from the right— it was early morning & I thot the near-miss was an artifact of pre-dawn light. Now I believe that as we converged at the intersection, the truck remained obscured until I had entered the intersection to make my left turn. Recently a friend who works at a gas station named the car part (A-pillar) & identified it as a “blind spot.” ...brand new concepts (to me) regarding this car part. I've never heard of them before— not fm the sales rep during test drive, nor fm techs during dealership service, nor fm other drivers. Ask your sister if she knows where the A-pillar is. "A-pillar blind spot" is not in the User Manual. The Compass has electronic blind-spot-monitoring (BSM) for vehicles that linger on either side of the car. There is extensive guidance about side-BSM in the owner’s manual, in add'n to boxed warnings @ using the back-up camera. "A-pillar blind spot" is not mentioned or warned about. However, in looking at Compass-Owner discussion group comments, I find this is an issue for other Compass owners, at least since 2011. All talk discussion is about near-miss with pedestrians, plus other vehicles as I described above.

Car is intermittently stalling, power steering intermittently failing and all service lights come on at one time, took to a non Jeep dealership they diagnosed as a TIPM failure and told me to take it to a Jeep dealership , took to two Jeep dealerships and they said since the issue wasn’t happening while the vehicle is in their care there’s nothing they can do about it.

My radio screen started to do phantom touches. Which is very distracting when it's turning on the heated seats, or turning the volume all the way up. It is being caused by delamination and is a known problem with jeep.

The car randomly turns off every few weeks. It usually happens when I’m stopped at an intersection and start to accelerate it just turns off. I have to put it in park and turn off the engine and restart it which seems to correct whatever happened. Not sure if any error messages come on the dash because I’m busy trying to restart the car and get out of the intersection.

Received notice for excessive oil consumption recall. Took to dealer to fix recalls. Realized nothing is noted of Jeep excessive oil consumption. Constant oil changes and adding oil. Just got another oil change, all filters changed, drove a couple hundred miles. Oil is low. Car has stalled on me in intersection with my baby in backseat. Had to get pushed to side of road. Engine feels shakey/vibrates randomly but often since I purchased brand new. Engine and fan EXCESSIVELY LOUD with no AC and sometimes in am when just started. No weather conditions to affect that. Check engine would be on then turn off. Auto shop would check it and say everything is good. But it’s clearly not and I’ve been dealing with these issues since I purchased. I shouldn’t stress on my vehicle because I don’t feel safe with my baby. Traveling shouldn’t drain oil. Thank you for your help.

It states Coolant Temperature is to High, Car stops when driving, car wont start at times, Check engine light never goes on, mechanic has no idea what the issue is considering when driven. The teperature is normal.

My 2018 Jeep Compass engine started locking up randomly in 2019. It would take about 15 minutes for the car to reset and start again. I started to notice it would happen more often in hot temperatures. The Jeep Dealer said they could not help unless they could recreate the problem, but it never happened at the dealership. This summer it started to happen more as the temperature went up more. I was stuck in traffic three times this year, 2 times last year. I have been approached by cops several times due to this problem. I was able to get it fixed this summer because it got stuck long enough for a mechanic to see the issue. Putting in a new starter fixed the problem. The Auto Start/Stop Feature seems to be wearing out the starter faster. I deactivate the auto start/stop feature whenever I drive to keep from wearing down the starter. Headlights come on sometimes sometime, other times driver will come and passanger side won't, or passanger side will come on and driver side will not. Seems to be some sort of issue other then headlights because when they do work they seem to work fine but randomly one or the other does not work. Makes it unsafe to drive at night and worry that if we are out for a late drive we may randomly end up with no headlights at all.
