2023 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Complaints

I am requesting that NHTSA investigate a potential safety defect affecting 2022-present Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles involving failure of the front bumper retention clamps. Owners of these vehicles are reporting that the front bumper mounting clamps begin to crack, break, or fail at approximately 30,000 miles — often occurring just after the basic warranty period expires. These components appear to be inadequate for their intended purpose and are critical to maintaining proper bumper attachment. This issue is widely discussed among Jeep owners, yet the manufacturer has not issued a recall, service campaign, or permanent repair solution. Instead, owners are being forced to pay hundreds of dollars to replace or repair a failure caused by what appears to be a low-cost component that does not meet the durability requirements expected of a safety-related exterior vehicle part. A detached or partially detached front bumper creates a potential road hazard. A bumper that separates while driving could fall onto the roadway, creating a danger for other motorists and increasing the risk of additional crashes. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate: The frequency and mileage range of front bumper clamp failures on 2022-present Jeep Grand Cherokee models. Whether the bumper retention components meet durability and safety standards. Whether Jeep/Stellantis was aware of this issue and failed to provide an adequate remedy. Whether a recall or safety campaign is necessary to prevent bumpers from becoming roadway hazards. Please review this matter before additional failures result in property damage, crashes, or injuries. Thank you for your attention to this potential safety defect.

This is the 3rd internal mechanical failure of the front electronic disconnecting sway bar assembly on my Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe. The component keeps failing prematurely (most recently after only 3,000 miles), causing severe front-end looseness and clunking. This is a critical part of the suspension and it has failed 3x in 14k miles.

The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed searching for a parking spot, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard; however, the vehicle crashed into three unoccupied parked vehicles. The contact stated that the vehicle crashed into the passenger’s side of one vehicle and sideswiped the front passenger's side of another vehicle and sideswiped the front driver's side of the third vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local collision center. No injuries were sustained. A Police report was filed. The vehicle was later towed to the dealer for a diagnostic test; however, the diagnostic test was inconclusive. In addition, there was an unknown error message temporarily displayed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

As I was driving the warning system alerting me to BRAKE! came on and jerked the vehicle to a stop even though no one was in front of me and there were no cars next to me either. Extremely dangerous to have the vehicle stop out of the blue while driving 20 mph. The component has not been inspected yet and the warning lights came on the dashboard.

My wife was driving our jeep and it suddenly shifted into park while slamming the brakes on its own. She had to stay in the middle of the road shut it off & then start up and drive again but it keep happening the whole 20 mins stopping ride home.

Loss of propulsion while driving Yes it is available for inspection upon request Complete and total loss of propulsion/acceleration when pressing on gas pedal while driving and going into a left turn across oncoming traffic; driver and five year old passenger in the vehicle at the time of incident. Safely maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the roadway. Dealership has not been able to recreate the problem. Vehicle has been at dealership service department since May 14, 2026, immediately after incident. Vehicle was able to be driven to dealership after incident. Incident reported to Stellantis May 28, 2026. Stated that the report would be escalated and I would be contacted via email in 1-2 business days. No direct manufacturer inspection at this time, and police/insurance company were not contacted as there was no accident to report. Safety recall 73C in regard to this matter was completed September 26, 2025 according to Stellantis customer service and recall information available for the VIN of this vehicle. No warning lights/messages/symptoms of the problem prior to incident. During incident and after loss of propulsion started, "D" started flashing on the dash console and the gear shift knob, and I was unable to shift out of drive. After approximately 5 minutes, the vehicle put itself in park and engaged the emergency brake. Video of part of the incident available upon request

The jeep was parked in our garage. When returning to the garage the right rear coil spring was laying on the garage floor. The jeep is stock. There was no accident or pothole event. The spring or mount broke or failed unexpectedly while the jeep was parked in our garage.

Rear right coil spring violently detached and flew across my garage. Fortunately we were not driving it on the Florida Turnpike at the time and none of my family was in the garage when it explosively ejected. We took it to the dealership, Napleton’s Jeep, on February 23, 2026 for its annual service and explicitly directed them to repair or correct any recalls. They said they could not perform the coil spring repair because “Parts Not Available” but assured us it had been inspected and was determined to not be defective or a risk. This is VERY disturbing because it could have killed us if we had been driving at the time and could have seriously injured or killed someone if it had exploded free when people were nearby (ex: in the garage, grocery store parking lot, club parking lot, etc.). There are no warning lamps to even advise that something has occurred - other than finding the enormous spring that put a giant dent in my garage door. I have multiple major work matters, an 8 figure mediation and two court hearings, which require me to drive to Fort Lauderdale this week so I had to spend $50 on an Uber to get a rental car last night and $210 on the rental car.

Hybrid/battery system is locked out and fails to operate in freezing weather (FORM status malfunction) Both winters I have owned this vehicle it will not operate on battery from mid-September until March or April. None of the ridiculous "fixes" do anything including oil changes, fuel additions or driving for 2 hours (!) to burn off oil in the fuel, all tried multiple times. I have dash photos and log of this malfunction. The dealership has been useless and unable to offer any fix or suggestions. JEEP Cares doesn't care.

The vehicle loss drive power in the middle of driving several times back to back, a red wrench and a message saying to service hybrid system warning appeared. Purchased used in September 2025, had open recall fixed and later recall fixed after in early 2026.
