2016 KIA SOUL Complaints

Airbag Control Model malfunction discovered during diagnostic test at inspection and confirmed at service center. Must be replaced. Safety compromised as airbag may not deploy in an accident.

I want you preface I had no indications via lights or sensors prior to incident. Nor was I informed of the recall that involved my vehicle. August 15th 2020 I was on my way to chehalis WA, driving up the back of Stevens pass as I-90 over snoqualmie was detoured that day. As I was driving about 55-60 up the mountain I noticed my car was losing acceleration I attempted to give it more gas and noticed a noise. Like a revving but no speed was happening. Then all the lights lit up on my dash. Engine and temp and oil. My temp gauge needle shot up to overheat and my car abruptly shut off as I was driving on a 3-4 lane highway up the mountain. I was able to pull over to a “shoulder” where I turned to the key to shut off my car. I was kind of in shock and was not sure what to do. I had 2 passengers in my car at the time. I waited a few minutes to turn it over. It started but I had to punch the gas to keep it from stalling and it was choking and barley staying on but I had to move because my shoulder wasn’t wide enough for a small car and we were at risk of being hit by passing cars. I was able to limp the car a little ways up and saw a pull off to a gate that led to one of the summits. There I rolled it and it shut off no longer turning over and it was smoking. There we sat 3 or 4 hrs til my sisters fiancé was able to locate us and take us to our planned destination. I left my car there til a tow truck picked it up later around 9pm.

The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made abnormal sounds and hesitated during acceleration. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that one of the catalytic converters needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and escalated the case to arbitration. The failure mileage was approximately 104,600.

my car starting making knocking noises and as im on the interstate my speed was 70 but I was not going 70 and I never had any trouble out of my car

Vehicle is constantly burning oil. I have zero engine leaks, no oil spots on engine. Where is the oil going. I took it to Kia. They said it was a catalytic converter. Oil loss and p040 code are incorrect. Misdiagnosed. Possible pcv problem. Bought from widrick in Watertown NY.

I bought vehicle in January 2022 Engine failed. Kia admits engine failed but denying coverage of replacement, due to previous owner not having a computer update done. Currently at dealership for 2 months. No warning lights came on. Driving on interstate at interstate speeds, car began losing acceleration. Eventually unable to move at all. Engine then began to knock. Also had an oil leak upon inspection.

Piston rod loose, broke rod bearings and is now making horrible noise and leaking oil

Check engine on. Code of catalytic converter. It was changed at Velazquez auto repair in Milwaukee WI, but now the engine is burning oil fast it lasts less than 2000 miles after each oil and filter change. I can't afford another car and Im disabled. My VIN is not included in the recall but my car was impacted, I've spent $1,780 on the catalytic converter already.Please help!

The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact had driven the vehicle to a local dealer and diagnosed; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the failure was recurring. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer for a second appointment. The dealer diagnosed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the contact stated that failure reoccurred and the vehicle had to be towed a second time to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed that debris from the engine had entered the catalytic converter and determined that the converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,500.

The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently shifted into limp mode. The contact stated that the engine was knocking. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the catalytic convertor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact's son noticed metal shavings in the engine oil. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that she had failed to complete the product campaign program. No additional assistance was provided. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
