Complaint about KIA Safety Recall 25V099 I'm writing to let you know my concern about the safety recall I got for my Kia Seltos 2021. I received this letter on April 14th• and I took it to the dealership as soon as I could, to Federico KIA, at 1911 East Edwardsville Rd, Wood River, IL, 62095. I dropped off my car on April 17th and I was given a rental car the next April 18th and told that my car needed a new engine. Federico Kia kept the car for almost a month with no ETA for a new engine, according to what I was told by the Dealership by call. Then all the sudden on May 12th I get a call saying that my car was ready, I go to pick it up the next day, and no information was given to me about what was done to the car, after I signed the paperwork. Then I found that no change of engine was done and that only they did a "RETEST" and passed. I took the car and felt different vibrations and sounds coming from the car. I call them after it, and they said that all it was done according to Kia instructions. On May 14th I called Kia's Customer Care Center phone number and told them about it. They instruct that the situation was strange, and they agreed with my concern of "Why would they keep a car for a month saying that a new engine was required, and now all of the sudden the car was good, and that I had the right to go to a new dealership and ask for a new test" On May 19th I went to Lou Fusz Kia, at1025 N Lindbergh Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132. I was about to drop off my car, they agreed to take it, until they saw in their system that I already did the test for the recall, I explained to them my situation, but their answer was "we are going to get the same results from the test and also there's going to be charge from until, since you already had one". I don't have any light popping up on my dash for now, but I don't like the noise coming from the engine, but Kia seems to not care about it. Also, I feel very unsecure now, after they had my car for a month, saying that an engine replacement was needed, and now by new te

    - wallkill, NY

At ~84,000 miles the car started to ride rough. The engine would stall out while driving 55mph. I would have to roll off to the side of the road and try to restart the car. I took it to the dealership. They found metal flakes in the oil pan and now the engine is totaled. When googling 2017 Kia forte, this was a common manufacturer defect that resulted in a large class action lawsuit. My VIN isnt covered for any of these repairs.

  • 2020 KIA TELLURIDE
    - Orlando , FL

On [XXX], my Kia Telluride received a warranty engine replacement at Greenway Kia East in Orlando, FL. Just two days later, on [XXX], the engine overheated while I was driving with my young child. The temperature warning light came on. I stopped immediately and opened the hood — there was no coolant in the system at all. This failure occurred immediately after a major engine replacement, suggesting that the dealer failed to fill or properly check the coolant system. I was left stranded near a daycare and had to call a third-party tow truck because Kia roadside assistance estimated a 90–120 minute wait. This put my child and me in serious danger. Despite the dealer’s clear negligence, I was sent an invoice for $1,833.77, blaming me for the damage. Upon retrieving the car on May 31, 2025, I personally checked under the hood — the coolant level was still below the MIN line. When I pointed this out, the service manager said, “We’re not required to top it off, but if that satisfies you, we’ll put some in.” This is extremely unsafe and irresponsible, especially after a critical repair like an engine replacement. Later, the dealership even claimed to Kia America that the engine was not replaced under warranty, contradicting their earlier confirmation. This kind of conflicting information, combined with unsafe practices and disregard for basic safety protocols, raises serious concerns about consumer safety and the dealership’s integrity. To make matters worse, Kia America closed my case ([XXX]) on June 10 without notifying me or giving me a chance to respond. I received only one dropped call from an unknown number, and no voicemail or follow-up communication. A formal complaint was mailed to Kia America on June 11, 2025, and I am currently waiting for their response. On June 12, 2025, I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). • 2018 KIA OPTIMA
    - Germantown, MD

Subject: Urgent Request for Engine Replacement – 2018 Kia Optima Dear Kia Consumer Affairs, I am writing to formally report a recurring and increasingly dangerous engine issue with my 2018 Kia Optima, and to request immediate assistance, including consideration for an engine replacement due to ongoing safety and reliability concerns. Since June 2024, I have routinely visited the Kia dealership on a near-monthly basis for service due to persistent problems with excessive oil consumption and spark plug failures. Each visit has resulted in service-related expenses, despite my efforts to maintain the vehicle in accordance with manufacturer recommendations. Unfortunately, the issue has not been resolved and continues to worsen. Most recently, on [XXX], I experienced a critical incident. While driving, the engine began shaking aggressively, the check engine light illuminated, and smoke was detected coming from the engine compartment. Out of concern for my safety, I immediately pulled over and had the vehicle dropped off at a nearby garage for emergency inspection. This incident, combined with the repeated monthly service visits and associated costs, clearly indicates a systemic issue that may be linked to known engine defects in similar Kia models. I urge Kia to review my case for warranty coverage, recall eligibility, or goodwill engine replacement assistance. I have attached supporting documentation including service records, receipts, and oil consumption logs. Please advise on the next steps for resolving this matter. Thank you for your attention. I look forward to your prompt response. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

    - Fredericktown, OH

While driving, the engine started to knock shortly before stalling. The car was restarted and then stalled again while to safely get it into a driveway. The check engine light did not come on until after the first stall (code P0014). As mentioned, these stalls occurred while driving at speed and on busy roads. The car was towed to a Kia dealership and found to have bad crankshaft bearings, requiring full engine replacement. Kia refuses to include this under a previous recall that admits engine damage could have resulted.
