2019 MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER 2500 Complaints

When switching gears from park into drive or reverse. There is a large knock coming from the Differential area. The knock was getting louder, and the vehicle did not drive as smooth kept getting worse with time. I took it to differential specialist. He diagnosed the problem as loose axle shafts and replace left and right side costing me close to $3000.

In normal driving, the EGR valve becomes clogged with black soot, and the valve becomes jammed. The first symptom is a hesitation at approximately 1800 RPM, resulting in unpredictable forward motion. Within several hundred miles, this second symptom occurs, the engine will not operate above 2500 rpm, and vehicle acceleration and power is greatly reduced. Maximum speed is approximately 50 mph. No warning lights are illuminated. No warning messages appear. Cleaning the EGR valve fixes both symptoms. Has happened twice in 50,000 miles.

NHTSA RECALL 21V241000 or DVUSA NV3LETULPX This recall is marked completed by a dealer MB of Nanuet (99 NY-304, Nanuet, NY 10954 ) or MB of Paramus (755 NJ-17, Paramus, NJ 07652) Today I discovered my power steering liquid reservoir is dry empty, I couldn’t believe myself and poke chopstick inside to see it dry. I looked down at the hoses and one of them was off the position where it must sit. I reached by hand I find this hose oiled on the bottom and completely loose (I can pull it out by hand, while it secured by clamp). What surprised me even more, I found second “fix solution” clamp mounted by someone not qualified to work as MB Technician.

The "Distronic" Front radar sensor that controls Forward Collision Warning , Emergency Braking and Adaptive cruise control failed twice during a 900 mile road trip. Once the sensor literally fell out of it's bracket leaving the system non working and putting my family at risk. Second time it failed during a snow storm with limited visibility in Wyoming. There are numerous reports in Mercedes forums that this sensor fails frequently jeopardizing the safety of occupants. There were not warnings prior to the failure and Mercedes

The automatic emergency braking feature is regularly activated while driving on the highway when driving under bridges and large overhead road signs. Sometimes, the van only beeps at me, indicating that an obstruction was detected but not doing anything in response. More alarmingly, however, the van has slammed on the brakes while going full speed on the highway several times, sending my tools flying forward and almost creating an accident with the car behind me. The dealership has tried to fix it 3 times and it’s still doing it. They first told me to keep the windshield clean, then they told me to keep my bumper radars clean. They replaced the camera on my last visit but the problem still exists. It seems evident to me that this is a defective system altogether and i don’t think the dealership will be capable of fixing it. I’m afraid to drive my van and I’m not sure what to do about it

Park feature on automatic transmission. Unit is available for inspection upon request. Unit was idling on the street for approximately 10 minutes, vehicle was in park. Vehicle began rolling down the incline while in park. Crew was in vehicle applied the brakes to stop the vehicle from rolling. Vehicle was sent to dealer. Dealer advised that a vehicle parked with the transmission in park position and the parking brake not engaged, The vehicle may roll away. They attached pages from the owners manual stating if you park the vehicle with the transmission in park position and the parking brake is not engaged the vehicle may roll away. Engaging park position is not a fully adequate replacement for the parking brake. No warning lights were on inthe vehicle.

Regarding onboard OEM Navigation system (MBUX) - I feel there is a serious safety issue in the factory supplied, vehicle specific GPS Navigation unit. In the Northeast, we have many parkways, low bridges etc. and the built in navigation system will happily route you onto restricted access parkways or right into a low bridge. My stock Sprinter is close to 10ft tall.... When leaving Long Island, NY , even if you research your route and then entrust the navi system guide you - your route is guaranteed to change due to traffic information. I'm not expecting a miracle - but a truck GPS is not rocket science - don't route me into a low bridge or onto a parkway. A simple checkbox "avoid parkways" would be a start. Another good one would be "avoid low bridges" At the very least add an "OK" checkbox stating we all agree the supplied route is for entertainment purposes only and not to be relied on for vehicle navigation. The contact owns a 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500. The contact stated while an employee was moving the vehicle out of the garage into the parking lot, the employee shifted the vehicle into PARK with the engine running. The contact exited the vehicle and while walking to the rear of the vehicle, the vehicle inadvertently shifted into REVERSE and started rolling backward almost pinning the employee up against the front wall of the garage. The contact stated that the vehicle was reversing at approximately 2 MPH. The vehicle rolled backward into the front wall of the garage. There was damage to the driver’s side door and front fender. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed but was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V972000 (Electrical System). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and informed the contact that the issue was not a defect but an operator’s error. The failure mileage was approximately 50,925.

The contact's uncle owns a 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500. The contact stated that an abnormal rubbing sound was coming from the vehicle without warning. After an inspection, neither the contact nor his uncle could diagnose the cause of the failure. While the contact's uncle was driving 70 MPH, one of the rear driver’s side tires detached from the axle without warning. His uncle was able to pull over and the contact retrieved the tire. Upon inspection, they discovered that the inner wall of the rim had sheared and that the lug nuts were still attached to the rim. The contact stated that the failure was related to the poor design of the axle. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it remained in their possession. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

The contact owns a 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, it inadvertently rolled backward and crashed into a garage. The vehicle's rear doors were damaged. The dealer was aware of the failure and scheduled an upcoming appointment on January 25th, to replace the rear doors. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V972000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was available. The VIN was included in the recall. The failure mileage was 13,575. VIN tool confirms parts not yet available. Repair was finished by on Feb 4, 2020. Consumer never received invoice from them, as it went thought insurance company.
