2019 RAM 1500 Complaints

The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission independently shifted into park. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed power train control module. The contact was informed that the power train control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to several unknown dealers on several occasions due to the persistent failure. The contact stated that on one occasion the vehicle needed to be towed to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000. The VIN was not available.

The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the power steering message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle lost power steering assist and extra effort was needed while steering the vehicle. The power steering assist function briefly returned after the vehicle was restarted; however, the failure recurred with the message displayed. The contact had received an unrelated recall notification and contacted the dealer to schedule the recall repair. While at the dealer, the contact informed the dealer of the issue with the power steering and a diagnostic test was performed. The contact was informed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced and was provided an estimate for repair. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V812000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.

Sporadically losing power steering, EPS on this 2019 RAM 1500 Classic. I noticed it sporadically at lower speeds and its now become more and more. EPS control box item number is TIC1999B5492 . I know there as a recall on 2019 RAM 1500 for power steering, EPS issues but my Vin number [XXX] seems to be having the same power steering issues now as described in the recall. As we were driving and pulling a 32 foot trailer battery died, luckily we were able to stop safety and charge battery and bought a new battery to get us home. The Mopar 48-volt motor-generator unit (MGU)—often referred to as the “eTorque alternator died. There is a back order of currently 4800+ and months to get this part in order to fix a truck that doesn’t start without it. How is this not a recall? This is highly unsafe if we hadn’t been watching the battery voltage as we were driving and noticed it was getting dangerously low potentially causing a huge pile up accident on the freeway with our trailer.

E torque alternator generator failure, loss of power while driving to all vehicle electrical systems. Part is on national backorder. Reading forums this has been an issue with ram on failure and backorder issues for over a year.

Engine failure with no warning — cylinder #7 collapsed, pushrod broke, and exhaust manifold cracked at only 68,000 miles. This is a known issue with 5.7L HEMI engines, particularly involving defective lifters and camshafts. These failures can result in total engine loss, potential stalling at speed, or permanent engine damage. I am reporting this due to concern over the growing number of similar failures in Ram trucks with low mileage, which may indicate a design defect. FCA/Stellantis has denied goodwill assistance despite low mileage and well-documented cases. This could be a safety issue if engine failure occurs while driving. Please investigate.

The alternator failed suddenly and without warning, leaving me stranded on a road with no shoulder during 91°F heat. The vehicle lost electrical power and required a tow. This is not just a standard alternator,it’s a component of the eTorque mild hybrid system and requires both a specific part and a dealer reprogramming (flash) to function. After the incident, I learned that the part is on national backorder with more than 4,000 vehicles waiting, according to multiple dealers and service centers I’ve contacted. Ram has provided no reliable ETA, loaner, or support option. This is a critical failure that completely disables the vehicle and creates a dangerous safety situation, especially in high temperatures or in areas where pulling over safely is not an option. I was without air conditioning or any form of engine power while exposed to traffic and heat, and had to wait a prolonged time for a tow. This appears to be a widespread issue with Ram eTorque vehicles, particularly the alternator/starter-generator assembly. The required flash must be performed by a dealer, so no aftermarket or independent fix is currently viable. Ram has not issued a recall or taken accountability for this dangerous and increasingly common failure. I am filing this report to request investigation into the failure rate of these eTorque alternators, the supply chain delays that make timely repairs impossible, and the complete lack of contingency support or guidance for affected customers.

I have what seems to a manufacturing issue with my ram 1500. The air suspension will not stay inflated after taking it to the dealership. They cited no issues but the problem continues to take place.

I was at a stop light and I got a warning light and a check engine light that said service shifter. After that, it wouldn’t shift gears and I was stuck in 1st gear. I pulled over and got a service tire pressure light, 4WD temporary unavailable light, service airbag light, ESC light, parking light. The vehicle was also sputtering and the cooling fan came on full force.
