2016 TOYOTA TUNDRA Complaints

The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the oil change warning light was illuminated. The contact changed the oil however, after changing the oil, the vehicle would not shift into the intended gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 73,400.

The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while doing a routine check that it was discovered that the power steering assembly was leaking. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic, and he stated that the power steering assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were contacted, and they stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21E103000(Steering). The failure mileage was 53,437.

Bought a used 2016 Tundra, unaware of the massive problem they have with their intergrated brake controller, i feel they need to do something about this or reimburse the buyer for buying a aftermarket one to replace the factory unit. Its a very unsafe problem when pulling a trailer, I love the truck otherwise but this issue needs fixed.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Answer - Front and rear wheel bearings. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Answer - wheels could have locked up while driving. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Answer - Yes. Milton Martin Toyota in Oakwood, GA has confirmed that 3 wheel bearings are bad and need to be replaced. 1x front left wheel bearing replaced on 12/06/21 and both rear wheel bearings are being replaced on 12/14/21. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Answer - Yes, if a dealership qualifies as the manufacturer. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Answer - Yes, noise from the wheels while driving. No warning lamps or messages. I noticed the "roaring" noise around 11/12/2021.

Under acceleration the truck hesitates during shifting. Took to dealership and they can’t find anything however it continues intermittently. During speeds on highway it does the same. No codes so the dealership said it would just have to continue until something triggered or became more frequent. To date this continues. Started seeing the random issue around Feb 2021

THE FRONT DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCK INTERMITTENTLY DO NOT WORK. THERE ARE NO SPECIFIC PARTS OF THE DAY, TIME, WEATHER CONDITIONS. IT WILL WORK FINE AND THEN EITHER ONE FAILS OR THE OTHER, OR BOTH. THEN ITS STARTS TO WORK AGAIN WITHOUT ANY ISSUES. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AT LEAST 12-18 MONTHS.

HEADLIGHTS IN THE ON OR AUTO POSITION RANDOMLY GO OUT WHEN BLINKER RETURNS TO NEUTRAL POSITION AFTER BEING ENGAGED. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE IN MOTION AT LOW AND HIGHSPEEDS ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS AND COMING OUT OF A COMPLETED STOP. CANNOT DETERMINE IF THIS IS A SHORT IN WIRING HARNESS OR IF TRIGGERED BY FAULTY COMPONENT.

MY 2016 TOYOTA TUNDRA 1794 CREWMAX, DURING WINTER MONTHS IN MIDWEST - THE HEADLIGHTS AND AND INTERNAL INSTRUMENTATION WILL TURN OFF WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT WITH TURN SIGNAL ENGAGED. THE AUTOMATIC LIGHTS ARE ENGAGED ON COLUMN STALK AND THE ISSUE OCCURS AT NIGHT. THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION

REAR WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED (BUT STILL FUNCTIONAL) AT 17000 MILES. WHEELS STILL ROTATE BUT THERE IS A VERY LOUD DRONING NOISE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH A SLIGHT SQUEAL AT LOWER SPEEDS. NON-TOYOTA MECHANICS HAVE EXPRESSED CONCERNS ABOUT DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS BEARINGS CAN FAIL ALTOGETHER AND SEIZE THE WHEELS.

HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS, AND DASHLIGHTS ALL GO OFF WHEN USING THE TURN SIGNAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED HALF A DOZEN TIMES AT NIGHT WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS IN THE 30'S, BOTH WHEN TURNING ON NARROW UNLIT RURAL ROADS, AND ON THE INTERSTATE AT 75MPH WHEN CHANGING LANES. IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 1794 EDITION OF THE TUNDRA WITH THE AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS. YOU CAN FIND DOZENS OF OTHER TUNDRA OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM, INCLUDING A VIDEO ON THE TUNDRA.COM WEBSITE. I REPORTED THIS TO NHTSA BACK IN DECEMBER, AND TOYOTA HAS YET TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY HAVE NOT EVEN ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN. PLEASE GET THEM TO FIX THIS! EVEN MY TOYOTA SERVICE AGREEMENT WON'T FIX MY TUNDRA, BECAUSE THE DEALER CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM (IT'S NOT COLD, AND THEY CLOSE AT 6 WHEN IT'S NOT DARK!), AND THERE IS NO SERVICE BULLETIN OR ANYTHING FROM TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGING THIS IS EVEN A PROBLEM. I'M BEGGING YOU, AT LEAST GET TOYOTA TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBEM AND FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX IT!!
