2015 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF Complaints

On starting the car the system monitoring safety features shows first a fault detected in the ABS, then the air bag, then tire pressure and sometimes indicates that the key battery should be replaced. It also turns off the idle control that raises the rpm when the brake peddle is released when stopped, and defeats the roll back when stopped on a hill. This started over six months ago and was intermittent, often turning off (no symbols lighted) and idle controls restored after a few minutes. About 5 weeks ago it became constant. In fact, the tire pressures are within the specifications, the key battery is new and measures 3V as expected. The status of the ABS and airbag cannot be checked by the consumer. This problem was reported to the Dealer, Flow Companies of Asheville, who found that the left rear speed sensor was faulty, but did not have the part. Replacement is now scheduled for October 3. This replacement hopefully will restore the monitoring system. My concern is that a monitoring system designed such that a fault in one system triggers false positive warnings in other safety related functions is dangerous. That it also affects the idle controls should not be acceptable. I have reviewed the TDI Forum and Golf Forums and found that this lighting up of multiple faults is not a rare occurrence. A faulty ABS speed sensor is sometimes the cause, other times is seems that moisture is penetrating a connector or cable. In any case a safety monitoring system providing false information should not be tolerated. I also drive a 2003 VW TDI Jetta, it also monitors the air bag, ABS and other systems, but a fault in one does not trigger a cascade of false positives.

The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Golf. The contact stated that he noticed that the vehicle had been sitting lower than normal while parked. The contact did an inspection of the vehicle and noticed that the rear coil spring on the driver’s side had fractured. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The contact stated that the coil spring needed to be replaced. The contact ordered the part to perform the repair himself. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

Both Rear Coil Springs fractured. resulting in poor vehicle stability and potentially dangerous situation.

My airbag light came on today as I was backing out of a parking space (7/29/22 and mileage 235845), and this was after plastic creaking/cracking noises coming from my steering wheel for quite a while when I turned it. The frequency and amount of noise when I turned the wheel had increased a lot lately. This is the second time this exact thing has happened - I had to replace the clock spring in the steering wheel once before (3/19/19 at milage 154165). While I know I drive a lot, it’s mostly straight on the interstate since I live in a rural area, so I am not turning the wheel constantly. I’m hesitant about if it’s worth it to spend money on replacing it since the last time it was almost $800, and has now broken again, only 80k miles later. I know that earlier years of VWs had this part recalled and I am wondering if that should have extended to 2015s - although I’m not sure what good that would do me since the replacement one I had installed at the dealer also broke.

When I switch the key to turn on the car it does turn on and it says starting system error on the dashboard car runs ok it’s just that it keep saying that and I think there is something wrong with the ignition switch that Volkswagen should address. Thank you!

Right rear coil spring fractured while vehicle was being driven at low speed on city streets. There was no obvious precipitating event. Upper part of spring was lost, lower part is available for inspection. Part has been ordered from local dealer but is currently unavailable, due to prior recall on similar models (19V188000). Report will be filed with VW Customer Service. Dealer unable to estimate when part will become available. Car is currently undrivable. Please extend recall to include my VIN. Recall 19V188000 Summary Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Golf Sportwagen, 2019 Jetta, 2015-2019 Golf, and 2018-2019 Tiguan vehicles. The rear coil springs may prematurely fracture.

The contact's girlfriend owns a 2015 Volkswagen Golf. The contact stated that while his girlfriend was driving approximately 45 MPH, she heard a loud popping sound coming from the passenger’s side rear of the vehicle after rolling over a small bump on the roadway. The vehicle made a loud clanking noise, and the rear end felt loose and unstable every time the vehicle rolled over bumps on the roadway. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to a tire repair facility. The vehicle was diagnosed and the mechanic determined that there was a failure in the passenger’s side rear coil spring; however, the repair parts were on national back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V188000 (Suspension). The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

While driving the rear driver-side coil snapped and cause the car to veer across a lane. The car was driveable but this almost caused an accident. We had the broken coil inspected by an independent repair shop. Apparently, there is a recall for this exact issue on Volkswagens of this model and year but I'll specific vehicle is not covered under the recall. There was no warning prior to failure.

Driving 65 mph down highway vehicle shut off with no warning. Fault code shows defective injector #1. Vw tdi (post fix dieselgate). Dealer will not fix because I cleared the code to drive home. Irresponsible for vw to make a car that shuts down completely with no limp mode or short time to clear road.

After turning on the vehicle, I turned the steering wheel and heard a click, then the airbag malfunction warning light came on immediately. Horn and all steering wheel buttons have stopped working (radio control, cruise control etc). and airbag warning light remains on. This seems obviously to be the broken clock spring problem. Vehicle has about 105,000 miles on it. I am not sure if the steering area was ever serviced during a previous safety recall, but I have never had any service on the steering wheel or issues in that area.
