2013 VOLVO S60- West Suffield, CT
Purchased the car with 120,000 miles and noticed it was burning 5 1/2 quarts of oil every 3,500 miles. Thought it was an oil leak and had that repaired but issue continued. Drove another 3,500 miles and had to add another 5 1/2 quarts of oil. Light never went on the last time and oil level was so low that engine now has rod knock. Only recourse is to replace the engine and I cannot afford the repair. Volvo acknowledged that these cars have excessive oil consumption issues but will only pay for repairs for cars less than 10 years old or have under 100,000 miles

2012 VOLVO S60- Blaine, WA
Our seat belts have been problematic because the passenger side is sticky and has to be moved around before it will disengage. When I took it to a dealer they said it was fine and just needed a little lubrication. Lubrication did not help the problem

2016 VOLVO S80- Hemet, CA
The contact called on behalf of his wife who owns a 2016 Volvo S80. The contact stated that the engine auto Start/Stop function was not operating as needed and the vehicle had a delay to start automatically upon releasing the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where an unknown repair was completed; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds and driving over a pothole, the check engine warning light would illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a local Pep Boys, where it was diagnosed that the ignition coil of cylinder #1 had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The vehicle went into "turtle mode" on the freeway, abruptly started vibrating, reduced speed to a crawl, and then shut down. My family and I were trapped in the vehicle on the center divider of the freeway.

2010 VOLVO XC60- SKOKIE, IL
I attempted to use the temporary spare tire that came with the car, and 1) the lug wrench provided with the car rounded out when trying to remove the lug bolts, 2) the lug bolts were too long and bottom out in the hub before they tighten down the thin steel spare rim to the car. In short, the spare tire is does not work with the lug bolts that come with the car. This poses a risk as owners will reasonable think they have a means to mitigate a flat tire and be caught stranded as even a well maintained, factor-designed spare tire kit is useless.

2011 VOLVO C70- Glen Mills, PA
The passenger door unlatches after hitting mild bumps in the road. The door does not fully open due to the secondary safety latch but it still represents a dangerous condition especially if a person is sitting in the passenger seat.

2023 VOLVO XC60- Verona, WI
While backing out of garage, the car abruptly and violently braked. The driver was tossed forward. The rear camera showed nothing in the car's path and no alarms had been set off. Visual review confirmed the absence of anything in the path of the automobile. The automobile was purchased new about 7-10 days before this occurrence. The driver has experienced shoulder, neck, and upper body pains somewhat responsive to acetaminophen tablets. The driver was instructed to turn off the automatic rear brake each time backing up but has not been offered a permanent fix. I do not know if Volvo has been informed or if the dealership has inspected the car.
