WINNEBAGO Complaints

Blind Spot Monitor is unreliable and unsafe. Causes false sense of positional awareness when changing lanes. Hundreds of other owners have reported similar complaints on social media. Winnebago has fixed the problem by using a Ford-based system on 2023 models but has mostly ignored previously manufactured EKKOs other than to attempt repairs that fail over and over again.

The contact owns a 2023 Winnebago Revel built on a 2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. The contact stated that the awning alarm was chiming every 30 seconds. The contact disconnected the awning fuse to stop the alarm from chiming. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where an unknown repair was performed; however, the failure recurred. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V863000 (Structure) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the dealer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the replacement part was shipped to the dealer to perform the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

In 2023 Winnebago and Ford introduced a new blind spot monitoring system because the old one would fail so easily. However the new one does not work at all, and both Ford and Winnebago point fingers at each other saying it's each others fault and both sides refuse to service or even look into it. This is widespread, possibly affecting every single 2023 based EKKO.

This is allegedly related to the Balmar relay system installed by Winnebago in the Ford Transit van.It is currently at the dealer, Colonial Winnebago, in Millstone Twp., NJ. Dealer can be contacted for inspection. We began traveling at a 25 mph speed for about 2 miles when smoke began to flow from under the hood. We pulled over to inspect; 911 was called. Smoke and flames under the hood were visible and continued until the fire truck came and extinguished the fire. Our safety and the safety of others was put at risk as the unit did not display any warning signs on the dashboard, there was a fire and smoke under the hood, we were in a public parking lot, and the unit carries 2 20 lb. propane tanks. Problem was diagnosed by our local Ford dealer, who stated that this is a Winnebago issue, as this was a Winnebago specific modification to the Ford. Unit was not drivable and needed to be towed to Winnebago dealer for service. They know about this issue - and have known for some time - but have not yet released the recall. We do not know at this time when the unit can be repaired. I do not know who has inspected the vehicle other than the Ford dealer and Winnebago dealer. No other warning signs or symptoms before the incident occurred.

Blind Spot Monitor stopped working after driving in the rain. The warranty dealer said that the rear sensors 'went out' because of the moisture. Currently still waiting for repairs. Driving an RV without a BSM is more difficult. We had to install a full time, rear view camera, to supplement the non working BSM. There were no other warnings before the system went out. However I'm are aware of many other Winnebago Ekkos with similar problems from reading about the failures on Facebook owners groups. Advances Service Trac lights illuminates and disengages Anti-Lock Brake System and Hill Assist Feature. Ford has issued TSB SSM 51210 but refuses to reprogram the ABS Module. This is per Ford Pro Customer Service Supervision.

I have 2020 MODEL Winnebago Boldt RV which is a conversion class B RV. It has a Carefree of Colorado roof mounted awning which has "deployed" and had to be manually retracted by removing an end cap and using a 3/8" ratchet. It just pops out under spring pressure and the motor does nothing. I think Winnebago Revels have had a similar issue. I have it secured with wire ties and paracord. luckily I was in my driveway getting ready for a trip- on the highway this could have been pretty bad. So it's what Winnebago installed, not the Sprinter itself.

Traveling East on the PA Turnpike at approx. 7:00 PM traveling at 68/70MPH we heard a sudden noise that sounded like a rear wheel rim had come off or a tire blow out. A passing car/truck motioned on the drivers side pointing to the back of the RV. We had to slow down immediately and try to find enough room to pull over on the shoulder which was difficult due to the 8 ft width of the RV and the 26 ft length of the RV where it would be safe. Walking around to determine what the problem was, my husband looked under the back of the RV and found that the entire under mount spare tire was hanging down under the RV, half barely attached and the other half on the ground. There was no warning prior to this occurring. My husband had to crawl under the back of the RV to remove the one remaining screw that held the spare tire cage to the underbody of the RV and the heavy fully inflated spare tire. At the time traffic was speeding by at 70 plus MPH. It was dangerous to even be pulled over on the shoulder with the RV. We carefully loaded through the RV side door the under mount steel bracket and the heavy spare tire into the RV which was difficult. Someone had to make sure that the RV interior was not damaged while driving the 20 remaining miles home. The RV had two adults and 3 Golden Retrievers in it at the time of the equipment failure. The RV was brand new purchased in August 2023 by a Winnebago Dealer in Forest City, Iowa and had approx. 2500 miles on it. At the present time we have not contacted the dealer where the RV was purchased or contacted Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa. If we had not heard the noise, the potential for a devastating outcome could have happened if the entire tire mount and tire had come loose, possibly causing an accident. We were physically and emotionally shaken after this incident.

The contact owns a 2021 Winnebago Micro Minnie. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V883000 (Equipment, Structure) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while his wife was walking by the cabinet, the sharp cabinet handle cut her on the leg. Medical attention was not sought. The local dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that he was in line for an answer; however, the contact had not yet received an answer. The RV was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.

Ford has known of a Service Trac fault appearing which disables the Anti Lock Brake, Hill Assist Control , and Cruise Control. Ford issued TSB 51210. However within that TSB the fault code must be active in order to complete the reprogramming thus there lies the problem. Once the fault code appears and the ignition switch is turned off the fault code resets. Ford has no solution for the problem allowing hundreds of F53 Motorhome Chassis on the road where the anti brake system is failing thus causing a safety problem in the right conditions. I will be submitting for a congressional inquiring into Ford Motor Company.
