BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2018 230i

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2018 230i, 230i xDrive, M240i, M240i xDrive, M2, and X3 xDrive 30i SAV vehicles. These vehicles may have an error in the software for the instrument panel, causing the display to not properly illuminate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Control and Displays."

The recall was influenced by the manufacturer with about 3,188 units affected.

Description:: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2018 230i, 230i xDrive, M240i, M240i xDrive, M2, and X3 xDrive 30i SAV vehicles. These vehicles may have an error in the software for the instrument panel, causing the display to not properly illuminate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Control and Displays."
Consequeces:: If the display does not illuminate during start up or does not illuminate various control and warning symbols while driving, it can increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will update the instrument cluster display software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 8, 2018. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

2018 BMW M240I Complaints
The daytime running lights (DRL) LED module overheated due to poor thermal design burning the connection point and turning the"angel eyes" amber, yellow.When the LED module overheats, it chars and browns the leading edge of the internal fiber optic light tube which permanently alters the refracted light color from crisp white to amber/brown.BMW has released a Technical Service Bulletin acknowledging this dimming/discolorization "flaw". BMW reuses to cover this out of warranty because they claim a Technical Service Bulletin is not a recall ergo a safety issue.BMW claims this is a cosmetic or minor component failure, not a safety issue.This LED module eventually burns out completely and the DRL will go dark.This reduces the vehicle's visibility to oncoming traffic during the day creating a safety hazard.My contention is that this warrants a vehicle recall since DRL are mandated in all vehicles to improve a vehicle 's visibility. 2018 BMW X3 Complaints
There were several radiatior hose leaks that happened in the winter due to the outdated plastic housing and lines that seized and cracked with colder temperatures. It has become extremely common historically and not considered affordable part or labor to replace.;
