Chrysler is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ram 2500 Pickup

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ram 2500 Pickup, Ram 3500 Pickup, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles. The hydraulic control unit (HCU) may fail, which can cause the anti-lock brake (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control systems to fail.

The recall was influenced by the Office of Defects Investigation with about 317,630 units affected.

Description:: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ram 2500 Pickup, Ram 3500 Pickup, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles. The hydraulic control unit (HCU) may fail, which can cause the anti-lock brake (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control systems to fail.
Consequeces:: A loss of anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, or traction control can increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective action:: Dealers will replace the brake HCU, or replace the HCU motor, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed January 9, 2025. Some owner notification letters were mailed January 9, 2025. The remaining owner notification letters will be mailed at a future date, anticipated October 2026. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is C4B.

2018 RAM 2500 Complaints
I have the active recall associated with the vehicle listed. It’s been nearly 2 years with the active abs service light, traction control light, and inoperative cruise control due to those lights. Stelantis is not very helpful. Will not fixit yet. But says I can pay myself and some or all may be reimbursed. There is no reason it should take this long. Endangering lives potentially. I sent truck pulling all the time. And you buy these things with these safety options that should work. To be taking this long to remedy this. Is unacceptable;
2018 RAM 3500 Complaints
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 3500. The contact stated that the ABS and the HCU were inoperable while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that it was difficult to pull his trailer. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired because parts were on backorder. The dealer informed the contact that the repair could be paid for out-of-pocket and that reimbursement. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.;
2018 RAM 4500 Complaints
The vehicle has an active recall open on it (confirmed by local dealership, NHTSA webform, and directly with Ram/Stellantis) that was opened in 2024 and currently has no remedy available. The vehicles brake HCU fails causing loss of ABS/brake control, this unit has actively began alerting of intermittent ABS failures while in operation. We have pulled this vehicle out of service due to safety concerns. Upon contacting Ram there is no timeline for a remedy, and there is no temporary remedy available. Our sole option is to pay for a repair out of pocket and if/when the recall remedy becomes available we can apply for reimbursement.;

Subject: Complaint Regarding Delayed Safety Recall Repair – 2018 Ram 5500 (Recall C4B / NHTSA Recall 24V-896) I own a 2018 Ram 5500 Chassis Cab, VIN [XXX]. My truck is subject to Safety Recall C4B (NHTSA Recall 24V-896) involving the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). I have attempted to have this safety recall completed, but the repair has been delayed because the required replacement part has reportedly been unavailable. This is a federally mandated safety recall involving the vehicle’s braking system. I am concerned that I have been unable to obtain the required repair within a reasonable period of time. The continued delay creates uncertainty about the safe operation of my vehicle and prevents me from having the recall corrected as required. I request that NHTSA investigate the availability of recall parts and the length of time owners are being required to wait for completion of this safety recall. I also request that NHTSA review whether the manufacturer is meeting its obligations to provide a timely remedy for affected vehicles.
