The internal metal reinforcement rod broke through the plastic shell of my Turn2Me car seat while my daughter was in it. We were not involved in an accident. I was driving home, she started crying and fussing, and when I got home and opened her door, I saw the rod sticking out.

I discovered a potential safety defect while inspecting and preparing my Graco Turn2Me child restraint for eventual forward-facing use. The seat is Model 2170122, manufactured 08/26/2024. The physical SnugLock/LATCH configuration of my seat appears inconsistent with Graco’s published Turn2Me instructions and installation videos. The rear-facing SnugLock lock-off/release mechanism shown by Graco does not appear to be present or accessible on my seat. The gray InRight lower-anchor/LATCH strap is routed through the blue rear-facing belt path and cannot be repositioned in the manner shown in Graco’s instructions. I cannot move the lower-anchor system into its designated storage location or reroute it through the orange forward-facing belt path as required for forward-facing LATCH installation. This child restraint has been used to transport my child before I discovered the condition. There was no crash, fire, injury, or fatality associated with the discovery. I have stopped using the seat. I reported the issue directly to Graco. Graco created Case #52041838 and Case #52041872, cross-referenced them for Product Safety review, and instructed me in writing to “refrain from using the product until further advice is given.” I am requesting that NHTSA review this as a potential manufacturing/assembly or child-restraint safety defect. Photographs documenting the seat, lower-anchor routing, apparent SnugLock discrepancy, and manufacturer label are available.

In daily use with the Graco Turn2Me seat in rear facing position with the seatbelt install, I find that the seatbelt comes loose quite often, requiring constant re-install for the seat to be installed properly and safely.

In the rear facing mode when using the seat belt and the snug lock on the car seat the seat become loose and shifts significantly. I have tried many times to reroute and tighten the car seat strap and it stays tight for a half day or so but after a short while the seat becomes loose again. The snug lock is still firmly in place but there is extra slack preventing the seat from sitting securely on the seat

The issue happens when installed rear facing using the seatbelt path install. It has happened in two different vehicles multiple times. The seat is installed according to Graco and vehicle manufacturer instructions. Over time after install, the seat loosens and can be moved more than one inch at the belt path. I have re installed multiple times and the issue persists. Install has also been checked by a CPCST who confirmed it was correct and properly snug.

The safety harness will not hold tension when my child is completely buckled in. I contacted Graco and they walked me through how to "clean" the harness to get it to work and that did not help. My child's safety is at risk because if there was an accident and a force is acted upon them the harness would not secure them in the seat. The car seat has been inspected, via video, by the manufacturer.

The car seat snug lock feature in the forward facing position does NOT create a snug fit and becomes loose over time. BOTH of my turn2me seats do this. Purchased on the same day. We recently forward faced my daughter due to maxing out the rear facing limits. We have installed with the seat belt due to being over the limit for the latch. With the seat belt, when installed per the manual, it comes loose almost immediately after install. I noticed the seat starts to wiggle within a couple days and being over the “one inch rule”. I will submit videos of me installing per manual and how it comes undone with the slightest pull on the belt. This is what happens after a couple days of use. I’m a cpst and have discussed with numerous cpst about this seat. This is a “known issue” and nothing we have tried will keep it secure. Extremely unsafe to be using this seat and it needs to be recalled due to this not being the first complaint. I have also made a report with graco with no response yet. It will not let me upload videos to the report but if someone reaches out, I can email them in.

Car seats turning mechanism is getting stuck in the open position, therefore car seat will not lock into place. This seat cannot be used while driving if the seat is not in a locked position. Sometimes we can wiggle the handle to snap back into place, but it’s not working as intended. The seat just became two years old.
