MAXI-COSI PERI 180 Complaints

The rear latch will not stay engaged. This is a safety defect. A child restraint that will not remain latched cannot be used safely.

I purchased a Maxi-Cosi Peri 180 infant car seat and discovered what I believe may be a defect in the carrier-to-base locking mechanism. When the infant carrier is installed in the base and appears to be fully latched, the rear of the carrier can lift out of its locking slot with gentle upward pressure without using the release handle. The front of the carrier remains attached, but the rear partially disengages from the base. The child’s safety may be put at risk because the carrier does not appear to remain fully secured to the base during normal handling. I am concerned that if the rear of the carrier can partially disengage this easily, it could affect the seat’s performance during sudden braking or a crash. The car seat is available for inspection upon request. At the time of this report, the car seat has not been inspected by the manufacturer, law enforcement, insurance representatives, or any other third party. I have contacted the manufacturer regarding my concerns and am awaiting their response. The seat was installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and the issue was repeatable after verifying proper installation. we have videos explaining/showing this as well.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The base to my baby’s car seat. We have the Maxi-Cosí Peri 180 Rotating Car Seat. My husband and I were placing the car seat to clip in to the base. When doing so it span around and would not stay locked I place. Once we clipped the car seat in and turned it to lock it kept spinning even when the lock button symbol showed it was locked. I took my baby out of the car seat and my husband tried to see if maybe the car seat needed to be reinstalled or fixed. But that did not resolve the issue. The car seat kept spinning around and not locking still. I do have doctor appts and many school events for my daughter at school this week. I cannot afford to purchase another car seat right now. I am going to have to use the seat belt to keep the car seat from spinning on its own. I am at all costs trying to my hardest to have to leave home. As it’s is honestly frightening. How was the child’s safety put at risk? My Child’s life was put as risk by the base not staying secure and spinning. As well as not staying locked to keep him safe. Also, this happened to us while we were at a store so we had not choice but to put him back in the car seat and my daughter and I held the car seat in place while my husband drove back home. As we did not want to get into and accident and the car seat not keep our baby safe. This was scary as I’m wondering now how low he this base been this way. So glad I caught it as I do not want to put my baby back in the car seat. We need to get another brand because we are mortified. Has the car seat been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. WE HAVE VIDEO FOOTAGE of the car seat issue.
