Brand new Volkswagen electric vehicle model ID.4 Pro AWD delivered to us in July 2022 after order was placed in summer 2021 and it was built and shipped from Germany. Tires were manufactured in Poland and came installed with the vehicle. Both front tires (Bridgestone Alenza Sport A/S Size 235/55R19 105T) exhibit rubber peeling where chunks of rubber fall off the tire after only about 1.25 year of driving and approximately 15,000 miles. This presents a safety concern. VW no longer installs these tires as OEM as they switched to Pirelli Scorpion Zero or Kumho Crugen starting with model year 2023. Only first two ID.4 model years of 2021 and 2022 are affected. Note there has already been a recall on Alenza Sport A/S tires but not this exact model per NHTSA Campaign number 22T021000 recalling Bridgestone Alenza Sport A/S tires, size 235/55R20 102V (DOT date codes 2422 through 2722). VW blames Bridgestone as the tire manufacturer and Bridgestone blames VW as they claim they manufactured the tires to Volkswagen specifications. Neither will take full responsibility. The vehicle comes with staggered tires and the back tires are the same but different size (Bridgestone Alenza Sport A/S Size 255/50R19 107T). I am requesting that the NHTSA approve a recall of the OEM tires on VW ID.4 2021 and 2022 model years as described herein. This peeling manufacturer defect is a well documented issue online in different ID.4 owner forums: [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

All 5 tires including the spare are dry rotted, and have become extremely unsafe in wet weather conditions. Truck came with these tires and only has 27k miles with a lot of tread left.

Bridgestone 235/55 R18. I was driving in the far left Lane on the interstate going 65mph. The tire pressure warning came on. The vehicle seemed too shaky to continue on. I attempted to merge right to get off on the next exit and the vehicle began to shake violently. Before I could exit safely the tire shredded with several loud pops in the 3rd lane of traffic before I was able to merge to the exit. I had to stop on the side of the interstate. I was strong enough to keep control of the vehicle by gripping the steering wheel. The safety of myself and my children were in grave danger traveling on a busy interstate. No cops were called since there was no wreck. This 2020 Lexus NX 300 was a rental from AVIS RENTAL CAR at DFW Airport. This vehicle will be returned to Avis 1/12/23

PREMATURE TIRE FAILURE AT THE BEAD OF THE TIRE. BRIDGESTONE DRIVEGUARD RUN FLAT TIRES. VEHICLE HAS A TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM. TWO DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT WE REPLACED A NON RELATED SENSOR IN THE VEHICLE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR SERVICE A COMPLETE SERVICE CHECK WAS DONE INCLUDING VERIFYING THE PROPER TIRE PRESSURE IN ALL TIRES. THE DAY OF THE EVENT, WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY PULLED TO THE RIGHT. AFTER PULLING OVER IT WAS DISCOVERED THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE HAD RIPPED AT THE EDGE OF THE BEAD. THE HOLE CREATED WAS ABOUT 1 1/2 INCHES LONG. THE TIRE HAVE ABOUT 5000 MILES ON THEM AND ARE RATED FOR 60,000 MILES. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE FAILURE. THE RIMS, TIRES AND CAR HAVE NO SIGNS OF DAMAGE SUCH AS CURB RUB. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THESE TIRES AND BELIEVE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE TO EXPERIENCE THIS TYPE OF DANGEROUS PREMATURE TIRE FAILURE.

PREMATURE WEAR ON BRIDGESTONE TIRES NOT DUE TO MISALIGNMENT. MANUFACTURER REP REFUSES TO REPLACE BECAUSE IT IS NOT DOWN TO 2/32. SUPPOSED TO BE 80000 MILE RATED, BUT ACTUAL MILEAGE IS ONLY 40000. THE TIRES ON PASSENGER SIDE ARE EVENLY BUT MORE SIGNIFICANTLY WORN COMPARED TO THE DRIVER SIDE. SAY I NEED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE UNTIL ONE TIRE REACHES 2/32 DESPITE THE DANGER IT REPRESENTS. CLAIM IT IS MANUFACTURERS GUIDELINES. NO INJURIES YET, BUT AM I SUPPOSED TO DRIVE ON THESE TIRES UNTIL A CRASH OR SOMEONE IS KILLED?
